Because who says we humans are in any way enlightened or evolved?

You know how the long-ago witch hunts were stupid and hateful? What a relief those days are over.

Except they’re not. In many countries, people are still killed on suspicion of witchcraft. United Nations experts cautioned in 2009 that murders of women and children accused of sorcery were on the rise. Following are just a few of many examples from around the world.

I have a friend that used to write about this craziness all the time at a paper in Riyadh. For good times check out the Arab Times site, they're constantly on there. Here's one I found just taking a quick look.

No pun -- but holy crap. From Caution's link:

NEW GUINEA had a mention on this subject last week as well, in a 'GetUp!' newsletter...

AND then there's the number of times that people are falsely accused of being "witches" to make them easier targets for someone's personally motivated witchhunts ~ along the same lines as falsely labelling someone commie, paedophile, traitor, terrorist, so as to add "weight" to attacks against them..

AND the same tactics are used in many "first world" countries in the lead up to elections, courtesy of the mass media as well as evangelical churches and "tea bag" political cliques.
