Animals electrocuted, strangled and skinned alive: The true face of China's fur farms
In new footage that is sure to disturb those with even the strongest disposition, animals – including dogs, cats and rabbits – are seen mercilessly tortured to death.
Undercover investigators found that many animals were still alive and struggling desperately when workers flipped them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them.
The footage, available to watch below, shows that when workers begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe.
When the fur is finally peeled off over the animals' heads, their naked, bloody bodies are thrown onto a pile of those who have gone before them.
Some are seen still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly.

When will this type of abuse stop? When we, the public stop buying from China? Do you check the labels of items to see where it's been made? Do you avoid products made elsewhere?

That's very harrowing Harry and I have to say that I don't really check the labels and I doubt many others do as well all believing that their single contribution wouldn't really make much difference.
The answer really lies with our government or the WTO in banning the importation of of goods from these countries but it's not going to happen I'm afraid.

Have to say, I knew about this and try not to buy anything that is made in China. It's not always possible to know, with so much electronic stuff made over there, imported and then put into larger objects that are sold as British, American etc. It's not only the animals, the conditions that the people work under are appalling as well.

Yes, I now find myself checking the label.
The working conditions are atrocious for the people.
But skinning an animal alive, makes me wonder what type of human can do such a thing to an animal-dogs-cats and others, like the beautiful raccoon dog. The pictures are horrific and made me ill.

Our fur industry used to do exactly the same, wouldn't touch a fur, looks better on the animal than any human.

I never knew of any company to skin an animal while it was living, breathing, alert. I can't imagine the pain the poor thing went through.

China today: dogs as pets
The rise of China’s modern middle class and a shift in attitudes about animal intelligence and animal welfare has led to a sharp rise in ownership of dogs as pets. Pet dogs used to be quite uncommon in Chinese cities -- where they served no practical purpose because there was no farm work to be done -- but today dogs are a common sight on streets in Chinese cities nationwide.
China’s government hasn’t quite caught up with the modern attitudes of its people, though, and dog lovers in China face a few issues. One is that many cities require owners to register their dogs and forbid the ownership of medium or large dogs. In some cases, there have been reports of overzealous enforcers confiscating and killing large pet dogs after they were ruled illegal in local law. China also lacks any sort of national laws regarding animal cruelty, meaning that if you see a dog being mistreated or even killed by its owner, there’s nothing you can do about it.
China today: dogs as food
Dogs are still eaten as food in modern China, and indeed it isn’t particularly difficult in major cities to find at least a restaurant or two that specializes in dog meat. However, attitudes towards the eating of dog vary widely from person to person, and while some consider it just as acceptable as eating pork or chicken, others are vehemently opposed. In the last decade, activist groups have formed in China to attempt to stamp out the use of dogmeat in cuisine. On several occasions, these groups have even hijacked trucks of dogs bound for the slaughter and redistributed them to proper owners to be raised as pets, instead.

That seems to imply that you think China aren't decent and because they could become the strongest you feel the future may not be looking good.
Yet the other day you trumpeted how clever your leaders were some years ago to jump in to bed with them.
I'd say if you had worries about them you should have been trying to fight them, keep them down or make them change their ways, aka Great Britain in 1939.
But hey, if you want to be the gangsters moll...

That seems to me a rather naive way of looking at it. Let's pretend China is a grocery store. Who are the more likely to listen to -- a random group of people carrying signs and protesting their policies, or people who actually shop at their store? Trade can be a very effective diplomatic tool.

I've heard of this hugely cruel and vile practice before, it's so sickening I just can't find strong enough words to describe this sick practice and these cruel 'people'.
It really makes one want to cry.

No Worse than many other places. I still trust a Chinese more than an Anglo, and an as a nation their rate of adaption and improvement is much higher. I am sure many of these industries will be cleaned up over the next decade. While you will probably still be arguing about forming a union or some other basic thing

China is one of the better in Asia, many of the south east Asian nations are worse but it is relative, areas with high poverty also have higher levels of industrial animal abuse. SO Trade helps these people, just we don't want to be buying these good so they are encouraged to make other goods.
ALSO China is doing it because of European Demand for Fur, it is Italian designers that have said it is OK to use Fur again and making the expensive goods that motivate people to cruelty for money.
I also think so of the American rappers are also some what responsible for wearing furs again.
And Raccoon Dogs are not pets, they have always (over 2000 years) been breed for meat and fur, in many ways no different than a sheep in Europe.

Racoon dogs are becoming domesticated and you can buy them as pets now. Even if they weren't pets, it's still a barbaric practice and you wouldn't see sheep being skinned alive.
I don't care what type of animal it is, nothing deserves to be skinned alive, except a paedophile.
