Gunman Puts US Military Base In Lockdown

Police in the US say there is a gunman at Fort Hood military base in Texas, and multiple-injuries are reported.

The site has been placed in lockdown and personnel have been told to take shelter, and stay away from doors and windows.

The gunman is reported to be in the Medical Brigade Building.

The base was the scene of a shooting in 2009, which left 13 people dead.

A gunman who opened fire at Fort Hood military base in Texas has reportedly died from a self-inflicted wound.

An anonymous US defence official said a Justice Department internal report had confirmed the man's death.

The official said one person had been killed and another 14 wounded, according to the AP news agency.

Well, I suppose by today's standards one dead is better than it could have been.

Details out now are that he was said to be suffering from PTSD and that it's not believed to be linked to terrorist orgs (like the last shooting there was).

There seems to be many veterans suffering from that and the suicide rate is horrendous. Sky put more info on today and said 4 had been killed.

MSNBC devoted all afternoon yesterday to this story. Without the military and Ft. Hood, it's just another killing down there.

It really was a slow news day. Actually, there were 4 people killed in Oakland yesterday. But all the programming of MSNBC for the entire afternoon?? I feel cheated.
