Shouldn't rich parents be made...
To put their kids to private schools?,where they pay for their own tuition fees?..
Personally I think parents of rich kids should choose wether to or not as they pay their taxes anyway, bit I'm putting this suggestion across just to match some of the OTT threads/posts we get saying the poor on benefits should not be allowed to buy a scratch card , play bingo as an occasional treat and a little time away from their kids and some other daft suggestions like vouchers for food instead of money for those on benefits, I doubt these vouchers for food would do much good as payment for a school kid's bus fare, or for things like PAYG gas and electric.
This suggestion of mine would free up some places at schools ,me specially where the better council run schools only have limited places and catchment area 'red tape'.
But I think that this suggestion is certainly no worse than the suggestions some on here have on those on benefits.
As I said I'm not really sure I'm even for this bit will watch with interest as to people's feelings on this.

I suppose the stickiest ground here JD is where you draw the line as to when somebody in considered 'rich'?

I think thats just daft...think on it....the rich pay their taxes....which pay for the state system...including schools.
If they were forced to use private education they would have good cause to say ..well we dont pay that part of our tax. who then pays for the state schools???
that would then also lead to folks like me thinking ...hang on a mo...I dont use some council provided services
like the council provided sports services, libraries, and probably many others...so why should I pay for them via "council tax"

There are already enough spaces in most schools!
Schools get "paid" according to how many pupils they have.
It's a stupid idea JD, sorry.

Think you have it arse about face JD. As Victor says, they already pay towards the state system, use their own money to pay for private. Now if I had my way, there would be no private. Basically, the people who send their children to private schools are the ones with money and influence. If there were no private schools they would have to bring that influence to bear on making sure state schools were absolutely first class. Now, having a friend who is an Ofsted inspector, I know that most of them do a bloody good job with their funding. But influential people, if they had there children in the state system, would make sure that they got more funding and more help.

Re: Shouldn't rich parents be made...
...ok guys just settle down, in my OP I did say I think wouldn't be in favor of this, but tbh , it's not daft in the sense where, yes...the mega rich would still have to pay their already existing dues to fund the NHS, education etc, but they have more than enough money to also pay for their kids education at a private school...
But this is the main point.....
This would ease up places for certain schools just outwith catchment areas.
At no point did I ever say I was for this, but I do think the freeing up places would be a good thing, I also think that some pupils mad teachers do not get the best of their school as school numbers only really grow...gradually perhaps , but the always grow.
Now, I must ask you all to just calm down a tad and not get In a frenzy at the Fonz, sorry JD

Re: Shouldn't rich parents be made...
NO most definitely not.
they way education funding works it is better to have those kids in public schools too. a few rich or well connected parents can greatly increase the overall school wealth.
Plus it means that the rich don't write off public education as irrelevant when they are voting.
Personally I think private education has it's place as it creates the comparison for public schools and competition drives innovation and improvement.
