Pharmas are a large part of the outrageous cost of healthcare in America. Ironically, because of the mammoth profit in parmas, the recently past Affordable Care Act is largely self-funding--contrary to Republican liars. It pays for itself by capping costs on pharma pricing and profiteering from patents.
Patents were originally designed to protect and reward, fomenting research. But, the plain fact is that most of the research and findings is in universities, by straight ol' blokes like us.
What happens is, the pharma industry comes in and signs those poor blokes up and takes the rights to the discovery. Then, they lift the prices astronomically, telling Congress that the cost of research is so very high. It's bullshite, of course...the paramas don't even engage in the relevant research, most of the time. It's the universities that do that.
The same game goes on with the hospitals and doctors. The Brits have the NHS, so that eliminates that part of it. But here--at least until the Affordable Care Act--the healthcare industry was out of this world--$10 for an aspirin, $1,200/night for a hospital room, $700 for two weeks worth of Celebrex, stuff like that.
Obama has put and end to that. Republicans?? They still oppose it. Who the fook hates their fellow man so much as Republicans???
