The vast reservoir hidden beneath the Earth's crust that holds as much water as ALL of the oceans
Scientists have discovered a vast reservoir of water under the Earth's mantle they say could be larger than all the ocean's combined.
Canadian researchers say analysis of a rare mineral points to the huge store of water deep in Earth's mantle, 400-600 kilometres (250-375 miles) beneath our feet. It echoes the hundred and fifty year old novel, 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth', in which French science-fiction forerunner Jules Verne pictured a vast sea that lay deep under our planet's surface.
The new theory, backed up by seismic data suggest that water is stored in the transition zone of Earth’s mantle.
It is thought to host minerals called ringwoodite and wadsleyite that can store water like a sponge.
If water does exists in huge volumes beneath Earth's crust, it is bound to have a big impact on the mechanics of volcanoes and the movement of tectonic plates.

You know there's no chance of that Andy! They won't be happy until they've re-released ancient viruses, polluted every ocean and deprived the planet of all it's resources - or blown the place up.BigAndy9 wrote:SO WHAT?

the term used in genesis for created, is the word used for physical manipulation, ie pressed, squashed, work on as opposed to the term used for miraculous, instantaneous appearance for want of a better term of phrase... so according to the bible it was worked upon, tools?? I have no idea..

Over all of that molten iron..
You people do realise that any water down there would be superheated steam, don't you, whenever it gets anywhere near all those magma extrusions that come up from the core and through the mantle..
@Tess : "ancient viruses" ? And what viruses would they be, pray tell !
certainly heat resistant, to start with..
The very names of "minerals called ringwoodite and wadsleyite.." makes this whole story sound more and more like an April Fools Day joke that escaped three weeks early ?

In what seems like a plot straight out of a low-budget science-fiction film, scientists have revived a giant virus that was buried in Siberian ice for 30,000 years — and it is still infectious. Its targets, fortunately, are amoebae, but the researchers suggest that as Earth's ice melts, this could trigger the return of other ancient viruses, with potential risks for human health.
“This guy is 150 times less compacted than any bacteriophage. We don’t understand anything anymore!”
The newly thawed virus is the biggest one ever found.

So we have a claim to a vast amount of water stored way down in the crust, and?
Did someone say enough to flood the earth?

Yes there was every need to mock a completely stupid comment in regards to the flood, if you do not like it Andy, that is your issue, and the fact is stop with the pretence, we know you are a little shit stirring muppet.

Did you read it? the water is trapped in a gemstone called "Ringwoodite" that has the exceptional property of holding 1.5 times it weight in water, it is formed by heat a pressure GREATER than those that form diamonds the ONLY sample found from earth is from inside a diamond. (we have found previous samples in asteroids)
It is not liquid oceans under the ground, it is water molecules trapped in Gemstone.

Re: The vast reservoir hidden beneath the Earth's crust that holds as much water as ALL of the oceans
AND why this is Science but NOT FACT yet.
Not one person writing what ever they have in their head.
The study is a great example of a modern international collaboration with some of the top leaders from various fields, including the Geoscience Institute at Goethe University, University of Padova, Durham University, University of Vienna, Trigon GeoServices and Ghent University.
For Pearson, one of the world’s leading authorities in the study of deep Earth diamond host rocks, the discovery ranks among the most significant of his career, confirming about 50 years of theoretical and experimental work by geophysicists, seismologists and other scientists trying to understand the makeup of the Earth’s interior.
Scientists have been deeply divided about the composition of the transition zone and whether it is full of water or desert-dry. Knowing water exists beneath the crust has implications for the study of volcanism and plate tectonics, affecting how rock melts, cools and shifts below the crust.
Not one person writing what ever they have in their head.

Saw this just the other day and didn't post it, since I knew HF would be on here claiming this was the water that burst forth and flooded the Earth. Of course, if it were confirmed that there wasn't a single molecule of water in the mantle, he'd just claim GODDIDIT regarding the flood.
