ADHD DOES NOT Exist - Stop Feeding Them Cr4p & Go Out & Play, British Doctor Says

Proper sleep, exercise and be a parent to them - job done!
BigAndy9 doesn't need a doctor, BigAndy9 can cure all of Britain's problems.
Distracted, fidgeting and squirming in his seat, the 13-year-old boy in my consulting room was exhibiting all the classic signs of an attention disorder.
His desperate mother hoped that I could do something for her son, who had become sluggish and unfocused at school, did not seem to care that his academic performance was declining, and claimed to feel 'too tired' for sport, which he used to enjoy.
He had been diagnosed with ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder - and been taking medication for a year but, to the despair of his teachers and mother, his behaviour had not improved at all.
I was not at all surprised. Why? Because, after 50 years of practising medicine and seeing thousands of patients demonstrating symptoms of ADHD, I have reached the conclusion there is no such thing as ADHD.
This so-called condition has apparently spread like wildfire across the globe in recent years, with a huge increase in its diagnosis and medication. More than 4 per cent of adults and 11 per cent of children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with ADHD - a leap of more than 40 per cent in the past decade. It's now the most common mental health disorder in the UK and affects around 2 to 5 per cent of school-age children.
Prescriptions for the stimulants used to treat it, including Ritalin, doubled for children and quadrupled for adults in the UK between 2003 and 2008. But these stimulants - so-called because they're designed to stimulate parts of the brain that are not thought to be working properly - frequently do not help, and instead cause a range of side-effects, some dangerous. They can even make symptoms worse.
To treat ADHD as a condition, rather than a set of symptoms, is doing a terrible, and dangerous, disservice to the children and adults who are diagnosed with it. There is no doubt that the symptoms - an inability to pay attention to details, fidgeting, interrupting, difficulty staying seated, impulsive behaviour - exist.
But to lump them together and turn them into a diagnosis of ADHD, then to treat this so-called condition with stimulants, is like treating the symptoms of a heart attack - such as severe chest pain - with painkillers, rather than tackling the cause of them by repairing the heart. It is dangerous, neglectful and wrong.

They are terrible! I don't have anything sugar-free in the house.
Just one of many articles on aspartame:

I don't think you realise the effect that this stuff can have on young people - or anyone really. If you eat too much sugar, it affects you - it can make you hyper one minute and sluggish the next. The sale of energy drinks to children is banned in some shops because the stuff can really be dodgy.
Aspartame and sugar-free shit is just as bad.
That stuff should be banned in this county like it is in some parts of Europe.
Completely agree.

Me too, read about years ago and avoid it like the plague! There is another sweetener they have just brought out, begins with T, will look up the name. Have been adverts on TV saying how wonderful it is. If you look it up, it is absolutely terrible.

I know Eddie, and companies that produce them do a good job of covering up the bad things about them, just a people think 'low fat' is good for you as well. It horrifies me when I see mums feeding children 'low fat' yoghurs for example, that are normally stuffed full of other things to give them bulk and flavour.

I don't know where he's getting this from, tbh.
There is a fringe medical opinion that the symptoms of ADHD might be indicative of other illnesses which have been overlooked diagnostically. But the notion that ADHD symptoms are just trivial is bizarre.

ADHD is over diagnosed. there are legitimate cases where their brain chemistry is out.. BUT the majority are just misbehaved undisciplined brats.
There is multiple issues not just with entrainment choices today but also teaching/school system issues. the standard of expected behaviour is higher, yet there is no re-enforcement of positive and negative behaviours.
The modern Diet with all the processed foods is probably having and effect too.

To be fair the article did not say the symptoms were trivial it said that by allowing doctors to take a group of symptoms and assign a diagnosis to them without proper further investigation trivialised the diagnosis - and I have to say I do agree.
Just think about it for a second - children are being given big powerful stimulant drugs when they are short sighted, hearing impaired, have a dietry deficiency, or sleep disorders and that is before you get to the ones who are quite simply short of sleep because of poor parenting. If you are parent and discover that your beloved child has been taking incredibly powerful medication for several years when something as simple as supplements, or glasses, or hearing aid, or sleeping would have sorted the problem how are you going to feel? If you are a decent parent reading that article you are going to be asking yourself whether the doctor checked these things - and I fear in too large a number of cases the answer is going to be "no not really"
As I have already stated I am not saying that ADHD does not exist I am saying everything else should be ruled out thoroughly - because with things as they are children are being let down across the board - children without ADHD are being unnecessarily subjected to medication and having their real problems ignored and the children who do have ADHD are going unsupported as they are seen as not genuine.

Re: ADHD DOES NOT Exist - Stop Feeding Them Cr4p & Go Out & Play, British Doctor Says
My eldest son was diagnosed with ADHD , he is also dyslexic , prescribed Ritalin which caused him to have blurred vision . We did our own research and changed his diet , cut out all colours preservatives and additives artificial sweeteners and he improved .
For his dyslexia we bought him a set of drums which helped with his coordination which improved the dyslexia .
If i just sent him out to play i don't know what could have happened .
Also for his dyslexia we had a friend at church who worked in this area and told us about using yellow paper with black lettering which would help him read easier , it worked also and he used it for his exams and came out with 5 gcse's , not bad for the last two years of schooling . Music exam he got a grade 6 for drumming .
I would say a lot kids who are probably dyslexic are diagnosed with having ADHD because if a child can't understand the school work it makes them bored and disruptive sort out the dyslexia and the behavior improves . I know this from experience .

Good points VOD and well done for not just accepting what the doctors say.

Re: ADHD DOES NOT Exist - Stop Feeding Them Cr4p & Go Out & Play, British Doctor Says
Saul’s analysis presents us with an inconvenient truth. He is telling the mums and dads of children diagnosed with ADHD (of which there are approximately 400,000 in Britain) what many of them perhaps suspect, but don’t want to hear: the problems lie not with the children but with the paucity of their own parenting.
In other words, stay off the weed and cheap drink and do something with your kids instead - learn about their wants and needs, don't just feed your own.
