Can't see what's wrong with his comment really. He clearly doesn't know why people go to food banks, so someone could have told him without all this fuss.

I think what he means is he does not know why some people find themselves in the position of needing a food bank when others in similar circumstances do not.

They live in the 17th-century.  They have never heard of Keynes, nor do they understand the post-industrial reality.  Global economics to them is a mystery, although they have a limited understanding of the usefulness of a Swiss bank account.  They follow Hamiltonian ideas about military adventurism.

Consequently, Tories only rise to victory when there is something monumentally wrong with Labour.  That is to say, this is the only time they get noticed by the public.  Nothing but the failures of "the other guy" bring them to the British mind.  That respite is inevitably short-lived.

In the first decade of this century, your PM played puppy-dog to one of the most confused, incurious and unintelligent American governments in history.  That got Mr. Blair and the whole of Labour politics into real trouble.  But the Tory springtime is always short-lived.

That's why Labour will win next time.

Did you forget that the Tories pledged to match and exceed Labour's spending plans and copy the Irish economy as the model for economic growth and success?

Labour's spending was no greater than the Tories before them but the difference was that Labour spent to invest whereas the Tories just blew it on just running the country leaving our infrastructure for schools and hospitals crumbling to decay on a scandalous scale.
