Girlfriend furious as boyfriend splashes £1,000 on trip away with female friend
A man took to Reddit to ask whether his girlfriend has the right to be annoyed after he spent a staggering amount of money on a fancy weekend away with a female friend
https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/girlfriend-furious-boyfriend-splashes-1000-24944227
What do you think? He claims this was someone he grew up with in foster care and she’s simply “like a sister to him”.......
A man has divided opinion online after he revealed he spent over £1,000 on a 'date' with a female friend.
The anonymous man took to Reddit to ask for advice after his girlfriend took issue with his elaborate plan.
According to the post, the man and his female friend grew up in foster care together and stayed in contact into their adult years.
"The bond I have with her is like nothing I have ever had," he said.
"But there is no romance here, no matter how many people in our lives have pushed it. That said, we both bought condos in the same building."
The man went on to say that his friend is "happily married", and that he’s "good friends" with her husband.
Her spouse, who's allergic to shellfish, asked him whether he would take her out to eat seafood while he was away, so he made reservations at a really nice restaurant.
"There is also a musical in town I know she wants to see so I got tickets and I got us a hotel room (with two beds) at a nice hotel," he added.
"We will check out some museums and do a wine tasting the following day."
The entire weekend set him back $1500 (£1,084), but he claimed he was at a place in his life where he could afford to treat his "cheerleader" who had always believed in him.
However, his girlfriend of six months was less than impressed.... furious even.
"She says I must want something with her to throw this kind of money at her but I just really like treating her," he explained.
Although he recognised that the arrangement looked a little "suspicious", he claimed he sees his friend like a sister, and if they were blood-related his girlfriend would not have a problem with their date.

I actually believe him -- poor guy. A lot of people will never believe that a man can do something like that for a woman he's not related to without wanting sex, and I think that's unfair.

I agree with you but I’m not sure you’d be happy with me doing that....

I wouldn't be, but if it really meant that much to you, I would try really hard to understand it, to begin with. It's hard to put myself into that scenario and know exactly what I'd do, really.

Again, I tend to agree, we both have friends of the opposite sex.
I guess it comes down to the issue of trust within a relationship. These people had a history before the girlfriend came along, and they’ve only been together six months...

Make it a couples weekend. Why the need to be alone?
This isn't catching up at lunch. This is sorta weird.

Its not a matter of believing for the girlfriend here Ben
I am sure the story is very true and this guy is literally quite a saint
I hold my hat off to him, but what eh did not do is factor how this would make his girlfriend feel
Where if this had been his biological sister, would she have batted an eyelid?
No
It is that much harder for then a girlfriend to connect to this based on how in societies males have a reputation for being prime cocks
What I cannot understand is why he never took also his girlfriend here on this trip
Sometimes people feel insecure and he would have been better placed invited her also
I also fail to see how this is being framed as a date
Friends do not have dates, but nights and time out together having fun and hence why framing this way is why some people may get jealous
He may well se her as a sister, but to the girlfriend, she is unlikely to view it this way
I mean surely after 6 months he must have a basic grasp of what his girlfriend likes and dislikes?
If you have a partner who may feel insecure, the worst thing you can do is fuel this in the infancy of a relationship
In his shoes I would have brought my girlfriend along to meet what I saw as my sister,. because they would have been two of the most important people in my world at that time
This is the point he misses I think here
As she sees this as this friend being more important to him than her
I imagine that is how she is viewing this
Anyway, its very clear his heart is in the right place and more so how he looks to be protective of his adoptive sister
Its clear the girlfriend feels second best, even though its not intentional by the boyfriend. As he rightly feels he is being their for his friend
You could argue the girlfriend should be more trusting and supportive, but we have no idea of her history in relationships
Whatever people say, you have to ensure your partner believes they are the number one most important thing in their lives
If you do not, then problems arise as did happen in this case
Having said that she should recognise what a caring and lovely partner she does have, who would do this for a friend
His heart is in the right place, sadly, it has made his own girlfriend feel insecure

Re: Girlfriend furious as boyfriend splashes £1,000 on trip away with female friend
also, i may have missed it but did he let his girlfriend know in advance of all these elaborate plans? or did she find out after he had made all the arrangements? or worse still after he came back?
if the girlfriend knew in advance she should have used some savvy and said something along the lines of ''oh what a thoughtful thing to do darling, I'll come along too. It's high time I met your friends, we'll make it a threesome, so to speak'' lol.
he does actually sound like a really nice bloke but considering he's been with his girlfriend a year it was a bit clumsy to say the least

Or husband of the "sister".
Like I said above, make it couples weekend with both couples.

Exactly.
Oh, I'm just off on holiday without you for a week, we are going to share a room with my boy friend but not a bed. We're just friends as I say. There's absolutely no way we're intimate....even if we do share an ensuite and I can hear him taking a crap in the morning.
I tell you what. I wouldn't even share a room with my GIRL friends and hear them taking a crap, never mind a bloke.
These two are full of shit. (no pun intended)

If he took his girlfriend as well she would probably have felt even more left out. There's all the experiences and jokes that the two have probably experienced not much fun for someone on the outside of that. his attention would probably have been on his 'sister' for the whole trip.

Based on the kind of caring person he is I doubt that very much Vintage
i am sure he would strive to make both feel special here and more so want his girlfriend to understand a part of life he went through with his childhood friend
So for the future she would come to see her as part of the family as he does

Fair enough, but he never tried to hide this and we have no idea what he and his childhood friend went through
hence why they have such a close bond, like family
My main criticism is why he never invited her to come along

Also, what we may have all overlooked is that the girl in question (the sister- friend of the guy) has a husband who was totally fine with it...
So that puts another slant to it.

Exactly, a good time to get to know each other instead of leaving people out of the loop....I hate it when people are excluded in this way.
