She has always been thin, and maybe now she is in her 50's she is naturally getting even thinner.
My mum did, she was healthy but try as she might she could never put weight on.
Celine is obviously underweight, hopefully it's just down to genes and not anorexia.

She looks unhealthy to me. Perhaps I was shocked at her appearance. I’ve always been pretty small but I don’t look like a skeleton!

I have seen some pics of her....and of Angelina Jolie, where they both look incredibly thin.
Some of the pics could have been doctored, photoshopped, or whatever they do with them to make a story.

Well, it’s been reported upon. So I’m guessing no photoshop?

I think she looks terrible, way too thin. If she's not starving herself, she needs to see a doctor. Actually, she needs to see a doctor no matter what!

I think she has a singing style people either love or hate....I like her.
Here she is pre drastic weight loss.

This was her concert last year, she doesn't look as bad as the photo's.
She definitely looks like she works out a lot. Weight loss often shows more on the face.

The human brain is hardwired to find the skeletal look repulsive, as it is associated with illness and death.
Fk sakes, Celine, you are one of the richest women in the world. So, sit down in front of a slice of steak pie and creamy mash potatoes, and a glass of 'fat coke' - and don't get up till you've polished off the lot!!

She's always been skinny. So perhaps this is her natural body weight. The problem being that age does you no favours when you're too thin. Does she smoke? Do drugs? Who knows.

That's way beyond attractive. It's certainly not healthy. What is she trying to achieve?

If she does have anorexia, it's an illness not an achievement.

But even an illness is perceived. It is not unconscious. You can’t intentionally vomit and not be existentially conscious of it...or at least have a memory of it.
Such behavior has a motive (attractor or detractor), in a self-aware human being. What is the attraction or detraction that motivates this behavior?

I haven't studied psychiatry Quill, so I can't really say why some people have the need to starve themselves..
It could start off with a need to look good, control their lives, punish themselves, punish someone else....I don't suppose there is any one answer.

I've studied it some, but only with a mind toward politics and psychological motivations towards certain ideologies.
This seems more like a derangement or some abnormal syndrome. Still, I would be interested to know what goes on in their head that makes them do this.

Re: Celine Dion: anorexic or healthy?
I know a couple of women who have had eating disorders.
One suffered with bulimia for years, her parents ignored it. I know her father used to call her fat when she was young (she definitely wasn't) that could have had some effect on the way she saw herself when she became a teenager.
I think sometimes it can start off with simply wanting to lose weight, obviously it can become an addiction, maybe it depends on how happy someone is to start off with on how these things take control.

But, like drugs or alcohol, it's something of which one is aware. It may start out as something of something of an innocent urge, but by the time it takes a hold of one, it's recognized.
It's good to discuss this openly, because bulimia is something of which the public is relatively unaware.

Re: Celine Dion: anorexic or healthy?
Discussion is good, when a subject is taboo it just makes it more problematic for the ones it affects.
I think Princess Diana did a lot to bring this condition more out into the open. It must have given other sufferers encouragement to know that if one of the most admired women in the world had this disorder and could admit to it, maybe they could too.

She's claiming it's because she does ballet four times a week.

I know from experience that exercise can cause severe weight loss, especially if coupled with a ramen diet and no alcohol. But it's also easy to be misled with false excuses, especially when one is in the denial stages. At a minimum, she should see a physician.
At least it's better than these 600-lb. women...I mean, I believe.

Re: Celine Dion: anorexic or healthy?
Without appearing callous, I really don't know how people can get that obese.
I am a chocoholic, have been all my life, but the most I ever gain is half a stone here or there, and come summer, when the weather is better and people can exercise more, it just drops off again.
If huge weight gain isn't caused by medication or illness, imo it often begins in childhood.
I see fat mothers with fat young children, and it's sad....those kids are possibly set up for a life of ill health, all because the parent cant feed the kid properly.

I see that too, and wonder if it's hereditary or habitual. Even if hereditary, a vigilant parent would steer the kid away from diets that would maintain/add weight.
