Teachers complain that giving live internet lessons is an invasion of their privacy.
If a teacher feels her privacy is being invaded because pupils can see into her home, why not just have a blank wall as a backdrop? Job sorted.
It seems some people will pick any excuse not to do the job they are being paid for. Interacting with their class whilst they teach IS their job.
"State school heads are blocking teachers from hosting live online lessons, claiming that streaming classes from their homes is an invasion of privacy.
In a poll of 800 parents last week, almost a third said their children were not receiving any live lessons, suggesting that as many as three million pupils may not be having interactive video contact with their teachers during the lockdown.
Leading educationalist Professor Alan Smithers warned that some children were missing out on their education completely and their life chances could suffer.
But militant teaching unions – which strongly urged teachers not to live-stream lessons last summer – said teachers must be able to choose whether to live-stream lessons or not and that it should only be used ‘when essential’.
Cassie Young, head of Brenzett CofE Primary School in Romney Marsh, Kent, said: ‘I can’t and won’t agree to my staff doing live lessons. The pressure, safeguarding and workload would result in burnout.
She claimed ‘professional distance’ was needed, adding: ‘Working at home and seeing inside people’s homes feels like a huge invasion of privacy.’
One primary teacher in Manchester said that she ‘felt sick’ with nerves over leading live lessons, adding: ‘The fact it’s my home does feel invasive.’"

Re: Teachers complain that giving live internet lessons is an invasion of their privacy.
Seems this started a while ago but there hasn't been much news coverage.
I was talking to a friend last week who's daughter in law is a primary school teacher. She was saying how the daughter's privacy was being invaded because all the class could see into her home, the kids could see family photos etc, I asked why she didn't just position her laptop facing a blank wall? She replied that she shouldn't have to do that, and if the kids were older it could pose a threat??
I asked her what her daughter in law felt...she said it didn't bother her.

Maybe they just don't like the way parents will be able to see just exactly how bad some of these teachers are, and to see some of the bullshit they are teaching their kids...

This is like not wanting someone to see you in person. Seeing into the home is no different than seeing how you dress, or how you comb your hair, in my view. It's basically a part of your self-expression.
You dress to look nice personally, so dress your home to look nice. It's just an extension of yourself.
I'd be a bit more worried if something was revealed having to do with locating the teacher's address, or other personal details. The answer to that is the same as the answer to wearing clothing that is all too revealing...as gels says, don't do it.

No personal details are revealed when a teacher is teaching online.
It's up to her to ensure nothing is seen on screen that isn't acceptable, and if she can't do that she shouldn't be teaching.

That could be a possibility, the 'invasion of privacy' reason seems to be too far fetched to be true.

Oh that’s just pathetic.
Put your personal stuff away and shut the fuck up.
Teachers are getting a very good deal, they don’t need to work half as hard as they do in school so what are they complaining about?
My daughter’s teacher is pretty cool. He takes time to respond to her work most of the time, with an actual comment.

Some teachers (or their union) love to complain about what a bad deal they have, but in reality they are very well paid for the job they do.
It's an important one, and if it's done well it can inspire kids to achieve, unfortunately not all teachers are good at their job, they are probably the ones whinging about invasion of privacy right now.

Teachers unions are destroying the education system.
I have no issues with private workers organizing. Public workers shouldn't be allowed to.

Labor organization is a human right and it doesn't matter whether the employer is private or public.
But yeah, this is silly. Teachers must be able to find a view in their houses that doesn't give away their location or personal life. I can think of dozens in mine and eddie's house.
I bet these complaints are mainly from teachers who can't be bothered to clean

Agreed, absolutely. The issues of remote teaching have nothing to do with wage/hour matters, nor even the conditions of the workplace. These are restrictions on travel and crowding, leading teachers to stay at home. I suppose teachers could rent a place off-site, but then who would pay for it?
It seems that teaching from home is a reasonable alternative.

Tell me, who is a public labor union being protected from?
