Reports: UK to enter second nation-wide lockdown next week
First topic message reminder :
Summarizing from several sources I've read tonight, Boris Johnson is expected to announce Monday a second national UK lockdown, starting Wednesday and lasting until December 1. It will likely leave only essential shops and educational environments open.
I never thought, back in March, that there would still be no end in sight!

The tier system wasn't working.
Many areas in the north west of England had been in tier2 for months, and the infection and death rates were continually rising.
Check figures for places like Liverpool, Oldham, Bury, to name just three.
They are reducing gradually now, but we had been in tier3, which is almost on a par with the lockdown we are all in now.
It will also take at least 2/3 weeks to know what effect the lockdown is having.
But.....Good news about the vaccination that has shown really positive results so far.

My OH is seen as a key worker. He's been working right the way through all this without catching anything. He mixes with the public every day. So, if people are careful, if they adhere to social distancing, and strict hygiene, I feel that this is the way to crack this. I don't see the point in a merry go round of allowing people to mix in public then locking them away, rinse repeat.
They shouldn't have let the thing get a grip in the first place. They didn't take it seriously enough to test people, or put in place the necessary hygiene practices until it was too late.

Some people are simply not following the social distancing, mask wearing, hand washing guidelines though....it's up to each individual to protect themselves and so protect others.
The problem with lockdowns is....the people who adhere to them properly are the ones who are following the rules in the first place.
It's catch 22 really.

And the rest are out there, exposing themselves to the virus. The beauty of Darwin's theory is that it holds those with adaptive features will survive, and those who have no adaptive features, or have specific maladaptive features, will not.
It looks as though the political system has just handed mankind a new adaptive feature, with associated maladaptive features. It is an ideological mindset: those who follow the experts and lock down, will be able to adapt and survive; those who ignore the adaptation, or have the mindset to reject any lockdown, will be at a disadvantage and will pass on. There will be occasional exceptions, but that appears to be the main current of the stream.
Rather than an opposable thumb, or a locking knee joint, this adaptation works its way into our ideological processes and has political consequences. There is an actual reward associated with this adaptive feature: fewer Republicans and Tories will be left.
Great God Almighty, aye’s free at last.
