Re: VERY HAPPY
The circle of life goes on. It's something I cherish more as I get older. I hope were leaving that beautiful baby girl a better world to grow up in.

Thanks, Vic. I learned over the weekend (at a suitably socially distanced "gender reveal" party) that my first great grandchild will be a little girl.
Thanks to this country's long history (which some misguided fools think should be expunged and re-written in accordance with their own extremist views) she will be a descendant, through her mother's side of the family, of a gentleman called Rodolfo, le Compte d'Iverie et Bayeux who was half brother to Richard 1st Duke of Normandy, and one of the noble families that accompanied William the Conqueror in his invasion.
That means, of course, that she will be entitled to use a rather splendid coat of arms - and had my first great grandchild been a boy I would have presented him with a beer tankard inscribed with it.
Any suggestions from anyone for a similarly recognitive girlie gift?

Re: VERY HAPPY
You have a lineage as long as mine Fred
a certain Robert de ros who was a cousin of William the conquerer, came to england in 1086, 20 years after the skirmish that sent them pesky saxons legging it. Held the manor and castle of Helmsley, the manor of Belvoir and the manor of laxton. A later ancestor was one of the "surety barons named on the plaque at lincoln. (It all went to pot in the war of the roses some centuries later, apparently that particular ancestor, may his rump roast freely, forgot to change sides at the opportune moment, and was dispossessed of most of his lands and then beheaded to boot.) what remained was gambled away a couple of centuries later by a wastrel ancestor, (may his rump be eternally covered in boils). However I am entitled to a coat of arms, and, due to the fact that one of the De Ros line married Elanor, daughter of the lion king of Scotland I apparently also have a tartan.
for a suggestion for a suitable girly gift along the lines you ask, would be one of those fancy perfume puffers with the big glass globe and a rubber "puffer" you could get that suitably engraved with the coat of arms

Re: VERY HAPPY
What about a jewellery box with a nice coat of arms on the lid - practical as well.
(Anyone already said that if so I'm seconding it.)
