Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
It's why I never call myself an animal lover.
I like them and respect them but I save love for humans.
Well, I may love a good steak, but that's different.

And that, is a very fair and non-hypocritical statement.
No problem with that answer.

Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
I come from farm people. I know how animals are killed. But I can’t stand the sight or smell of blood and shit. Why I couldn’t hack it as a probationer nurse. It was bad enough dealing with my own kids. I can’t deal even with cleaning the cat litter. I can’t gut an animal or fish. I own it. That doesn’t make me a hypocrite eating meat. I can’t grow vegetables or run a tractor or make my own clothes. Am I a hypocrite because I am a consumer of those items?

Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
And one of the reasons we eat certain animals is because some taste better than others, for most people anyway. While some people eat carnivores, they taste terrible to most people. They are also more dangerous to eat. That's why you have to be more careful with pigs. They are "unclean" because they will eat other animals and pick up stuff.
We do the same with plants. We eat lettuce, but we dont eat maple leaves. Its because one doesn't taste very good.

Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
But the bottom line is to kill an animal causes them fear and pain.
Human beings can survive very well without eating meat, so we kill and eat them simply because we like the taste.
It is hypocritical to say 'I am an animal lover' whilst knowing they are being killed so you can have a tasty dinner.
I was vegi for years when I was younger, I could say it then...I cant now.

For over 20 years I worked at Vermin Control on many Farms, in that time I shot Thousands of Wood pigeons, Crows and Rabbits. Now I can no longer shoot, I spend £'s on seed to feed the Pigeon and Squirrels . I also buy meat and bones to feed the Foxes that come every Night into my Garden ! I like to think I am paying something back to the Wildlife I killed !

Very well is debatable. We are onnivivores. Vegetarians typically eat dairy and eggs so they do well. Vegans can have issues.
And when you're young, you can survive on pizza and beer.

Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
Or, kosher. It's basically the same as Halal. The word halal in Arabic means permitted or lawful. The word kosher is Hebrew for "proper" or "fit", similar to the Arabic word halal. However, whereas Jews do not speak the name of God each time they slaughter an animal, Muslims perform a prayer over the first and last animal in any given slaughter.
Muslims are taught through the Qu'ran that all animals should be treated with respect and be well cared for. Therefore the goal in halal-style butchery is to slaughter the animal in a manner which will limit the amount of pain the animal will endure.

The way animals are transported to slaughter houses must cause them fear, and even if it is quick, who can say how they feel before they are slaughtered?nicko wrote:Syl, no fear or pain with a quick kill, but when it comes to Halal !!!!!!!!!!!

And that’s all it is. Everything else that people say is just waffle.
You can’t be an animal lover and eat meat. It simply doesn’t make sense!. I don’t even care. I don’t harm animals and I don’t like the idea of it yet I don’t spout on about loving animals....
But to say “I’m an animal lover” yet still eat meat? It’s nonsensical. Yet you’ll hear all sorts of waffle from the people who simply can’t see it.

Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
I may have used the term "animal lover" to casually describe myself before.
That's because I like animals, I'm interested in them, I've had beloved pets, and I'm concerned with farm animals being treated cruelly and wild animals going extinct.
Yes, I eat meat. I don't eat beef, for example, because I hate cows. I think they should at least get a chance to lead a normal cow life before they're slaughtered for their meat.
At the same time, I continue to support the current animal farming system by my eating habits, because I can't fix the world and I like meat.
Does that make me not a by-the-book, dictionary-definition animal lover? Perhaps so. I'll settle for "animal liker" or "animal fan" if my above-mentioned concerns and feelings matter in this debate.

I just think it's a bit unfair, it sounds like you're saying everyone who eats meat doesn't care about the treatment of animals.
I mean, it's the system. I could say that if you care about human beings, you don't buy any product that was made by exploited workers. If you care about human beings, you shouldn't own a computer or smartphone, because they're built by people who live and work in factories where they work 100-hour weeks and earn a little over £300 per month.
I won't throw away my phone, so I guess that means I don't give a shit about humans or animals. I'll stop being a hypocrite, I guess. I care neither about animals nor people; they can all rot.
Re: The hypocrisy of animal lovers ,
So is Eddie going to police all animals from killing other animals?
I mean you love animals right?
What is she doing to stop animals being killed by other animals?
Or is that okay?
How about spiders Eddie? Do you make an exception for insects?
You see eddie your own argument based on hypocrisy can be thrown back right at you
Nothing worse than a vegetarian thinking they are morally superior, when they are the worst hypocrites, when they use some moral standing like this
I love eating meat. I also can and do love some animals. For example I do not love camels, snakes, skunks etc yet i do love dogs. I do not eat any of them though.
Hence your argument is absurd, as I do not love all animals, some I think are a complete pest. At the end of the day humans only eat a small number of types of animals. So no I do not love cows, sheep, pigs, deer etc, but I certainly love eating them..
Everyone has a right to choose what animals they like and which ones they wish to eat.

If the later then her whole thread has been utterly hypocritical
As we all have certain types of animals we love

It's very hard not to be a hypocrite these days.
So much of what people do harms animals, nature and the environment, in different ways.
You'd practically have to live like a caveman in order to only do a small amount of harm to the natural world.

I agree. That's why I think it's a bit unfair to call, say, an environmentalist a hypocrite if he drives a car. He may just have no other way to get to work.

Disagree...that environmentalist can either move closer to his work, or take a different job (even if its on less pay) closer to home so he can walk or cycle....IF he feel unable to do that then he IS a hypocrite, preferring the life style of modern life, but supporting that which would for most people involve a massive drop in standards of living......Ben Reilly wrote:Maddog wrote:Ben Reilly wrote:It's very hard not to be a hypocrite these days.
