That dreadful hypocrite has resigned
Scotland's chief medical officer has resigned after apologising for visiting her second home during the coronavirus lockdown.
Dr Catherine Calderwood said she was "deeply sorry" and resigned "with a heavy heart".
She said she agreed with First Minister Nicola Sturgeon that the "justifiable focus" on her behaviour risked distracting from the pandemic response.
Dr Calderwood was given a police warning after making the trip to Fife.

There needs to be a total, and enforceable lockdown. All parks , playgrounds and beaches closed. 1 short per day. Shopping for ESSENTIALS only.

I agree. It’s even worse here. Our state just only closed nail/beauty salons and spas on Saturday evening.
Food stores, gas stations, medical offices are the only things that should be open now apart from essential services like sanitation, transport ( although limited), hospitals, power plants and telecommunications, courts (but no access to the public just essential workers in PPE ).

Yet still people are buying packets of flower seeds from Poundland shops. People are seemingly committing suicide in the name of personal liberty.
The world is going to hell in a handcart.
Perhaps it would be better if the virus killed off all the stupid and greedy people.

Re: That dreadful hypocrite has resigned
and if pound stores are open selling food...why cant you buy seeds at the same time?
I'd agree a special trip to buy seeds isnt on or sensible......but.........
and...people need SOMETHING to do.....not everyone wants to sit in front of the telly watching crap 24/7 nor do they want to be sat in front of a screen sending pictures of their breakfast and being all virtuous to their imaginary friends on faceache.....
I've been up since 7 clearing a section of my garden for some salad veggies....
now theres a thing are veg seeds "essentials" and if not why not, and if yes, why cant you have some flowers at the same time?
and , being a lefty if one household has seeds from last year are you going to ban them from planting them in order that their neighbours dont get all jealous, or perhaps you will let them do all the work and then force them to share with those others that havnt.....on the basis that home grown veggies are non essentials.....

the problem isnt people buying a packet of seeds...its the brain-dead section of society, comprised mainly of the 14-30 year olds (though not exclusively I'd agree) who go congregating where they should not....

Don’t be ridiculous. Why bring left or right into this? The point he is making is that far too many people are going out to the shops as something to do and not going out for the purpose of buying essentials. What people need to do is stay the hell at home. If they need to exercise go out in their garden. If they don’t have a garden, get out for a quick walk and then get the hell back home. If they don’t like just having Telly or Facebook and are bored, tough shit. Lots of people don’t even have that and they should be thanking their lucky stars that they are not on the frontline being exposed to this thing.

Why do people have to get back home if they are staying away from people?
I rode my bike 50 miles yesterday and didnt get within 10 feet of anyone except the guy that brought out my chicken dinner.

Yes, but if i am indeed out buying essentials (though no one yet has defined what are essentials) why if the same shop is selling so called non essentials (like flower seeds) why cant i buy some of those as well....

Vic cannot make a point about any subject without demonising the Labour party or left leaning posters.
Why would any sensible poster, let alone the bloke who thinks he owns and runs the forum post anything so trite and contrived as Vic just did.
What has left and right got to do with this topic.
Curiously, he is a bit slow to admit that virtually every country has turned to socialist ideals, if only temporarily, to deal with the physical and economic effects of the crisis.

Nobody is saying you can’t. By all means if you are out for essentials and the same shop is selling them, fine by me. But be quick and don’t hang about browsing. That is what Brutus’s original post was about. I had a go at my mum for going to a garden center to get some plants. Yeah fine she wore gloves and a mask and did the social distancing thing, but it WAS NOT ESSENTIAL.
Essentials as defined by me, food, beverages, medicines, pet food, household items such as batteries/lightbulbs, cleaning/sanitation/personal hygiene items. Anything beyond that isn’t really essential.

Dive in , dive out. Grab ESSENTIALS only.
Spend as little time inside the shop as is humanly possible. That doesn't mean browsing the books and magazine section, buying daffs or spring bulbs, or choosing a nice summery shirt.
And avoid shops with narrow isles like Poundland, where it is impossible to keep 2 metres apart.
If anybody can turn that political then they probably aren't fit to run a shell stall, let alone a forum.

While they are nice things, no they aren’t essential and I speak as a smoker.
What else do you have in mind?
And that’s a good point. If people can, they should order online or do a grocery delivery/pick up.

Socialise.
Fining these people haven’t worked, the police need to get

I wonder if the cabinet minister
Robert Jenricks will resign after his
140 mile dash to his holiday home , plus
another 40 miles to see his parents during this
Lockdown.
Another one telling us all to stay put and indoors
Yet he can’t stick to what he says.

Tommy not being entirely truthful, who would have thought that.
He left his London flat on March 29, drove to his family mansion to see his wife and kids. Then a couple of days later drove a further 40 miles to visit his parents, ostensibly to deliver medicines.....which their neighbours admit they had already delivered.
Read it in most national papers.
He lives in a London flat.
His family mansion is in Herfordshire, where his wife and kids live.
His parents live in Shropshire.

I was under the impression from what had been said on the telly that
nobody had to visit relatives that were not part of your household, for
fear of spreading the virus. Older relatives are more vulnerable to catching
It.

Over 70s have been told to stay at home, so I am doing her shopping for her...
I drop it to her door step and ring the bell... I stay a safe distance away and chat for a bit... Then she takes stuff inside and washed all items before putting away in fridge/cupboards...
I have been staying 2 metres away... But as I've been working in a hospital that has loads of covid19 cases the last few days, I will be staying 3-4 metres away from her... Just to be extra careful...

Very wise Tommy, as recent research has shown that coughs and sneezes can in fact travel far more than 2 meters

Yes... But it's not that I think I may have it, cos I'm 99% sure I already had it 2 months ago... It's concern about maybe having picked it up externally from the hospital and transferred it to inside my car, and then transferring it again to my mum through contact...
Very unlikely I know... But better to be safe...

I brought my mom cookies and candy yesterday. I cant see her as she is in aassisted living but I can still bring her things she asks for.
She did ask for a bottle of bourbon. I'm debating that one still, as I know she still has some. The aids there just hid it behind her recliner.

Do you wear a mask and gloves when you go shopping?
I think and don’t take this the wrong way, but working in a hospital
that has patients with Covid 19, is very risky, then you are going round

I'm not anywhere near any red zones where the covid patients are, the staff who are change out of their PPE when moving around the rest of the building, plus there are alcohol hand sanitisers at every doorway which everyone uses...
I have to wear fresh clean clothes every day in the building which I change out of and bag up for my journey home in my car, these clothes are then immediately washed so fresh again for the next day.
And I am 99% sure that I've already had the virus 2 months ago... So highly unlikely that I can catch it again for at least a year or so, the experts are saying...
I don't go into my mum's house... I leave the shopping at her door and stand well back as she collects it... Ive been telling her to remove and wash each item thoroughly before putting away in fridge/cupboards, and throw away the bags... Been telling her this for a few weeks now since I've been grabbing shopping for her...

Have you had any of the symptoms?

Re: That dreadful hypocrite has resigned
I have posted the details of my symptoms on one of the threads, yesterday I think...
If you want to find the post easily then click on my username on the left just below my Avi pic... Then click on statistics... Then click on the option to 'find all posts by this poster'... Which is about half way down on the left...

Re: That dreadful hypocrite has resigned
I've found it for you, to save you the trouble of searching...
I'm pretty sure that I had it 2 months ago (not tested)... It did me in for a few days with chronic fatigue and body aches and pains, a bit of feeling hot and cold etc, zero appetite, then as that started to go it turned into a really nasty sore throat that felt like swallowing broken glass, a bit short of breath, and a cough...
This went on for about 9 days in total... Although it took another couple of weeks to get my strength back...
My brother has just had it too (again not tested)... He had pretty much the same symptoms as me and said just walking to the toilet made him out of breath...

Re: That dreadful hypocrite has resigned
I never really lost my taste or smell, but I lost my appetite and swallowing was agony, apart from ice cold water which numbed everything.
Big fever, migraine headache and every muscle ached, on top of no breath and the endless cough which even now still lingers.
I was on O2 for 3 days like Boris, but cannot recall to much, as apparently I was quite heavily sedated . I was on a ventilator for a while , I believe 1 night, but awoke and was just on a regular O2 mask .
I think you can perm any number of symptoms, all are solid indicators of the virus.
Bloody scary , nevertheless.
