Priti Patel -will there be a government cover up?
The PM has instigated, quite correctly, an inquiry into the alleged bullying by Priti Patel.
The problem is the inquiry is likely to be lead by staff who are in support of her, and in all probability have pre determined she has no case to answer, even before the investigation has started.
I wonder whether if they do uncover any evidence of misconduct, will it be announced, or simply swept under the carpet.
I do not trust those in high office who wield too much unaccountable power.

Civil servants are supposed to follow their Goverments orders, not make their own decisions. witch is what they have been doing !

But civil servants, particularly those who have specialised in particular departments such as Border Force, Police, Prison service are expert in their field and offer best advice to politicians, most of whom jump from Department to Department and many of whom are inexperienced in their appointed office and some of whom are ill qualified, and depend on the wise and impartial advice given by the civil service.

All very true, Brutus. But the problem here does appear to be a clash of strong personalities.
I think that the present situation is that the jury is still out on whether Patel has actually been abusive, in which case she would obviously have to go, or whether this is a classic "Yes Minister" case of Sir Humphrey finding for the first time in his long and distinquished career that his minister has actually said "no, Sir Humphrey."

There are far too many Sir Humphrey mandarins within the civil service, but they have all invariably given decades of loyal , impartial and unswerving dedication to whichever party has been in power.
Our civil service is held in the absolute highest esteem worldwide as the model other countries aspire to.
In Patel's case, there appears to be creeping declarations of malpractice and bullying, which have resulted in confirmed layouts to victims, and indeed Patels sacking from a previous post for 'irregularities'.
Behind the gleaming, fixed smile lies a ruthless, driven and ambitious politician who wants the top job and looks as if she will use any method to achieve it.

Even the Conservative leaning press have concerns over Patel's behaviour.
