FBI official says Russia wants to see U.S. ‘tear ourselves apart’
WASHINGTON (AP) — Russia wants to watch Americans “tear ourselves apart” as the United States heads toward elections, an FBI official warned Monday.
David Porter, an assistant section chief with the FBI’s Foreign Influence Task Force, accused Russia of conducting brazen operations aimed at spreading disinformation, exploiting lines of division in society and sowing doubt about the integrity of U.S. elections and the ability of its leaders to govern effectively.
Porter spoke at an election security conference on Capitol Hill just days after conflicting accounts emerged of a closed-door briefing intelligence officials had given to House lawmakers on threats from Russia and other nations in the 2020 election. That briefing focused attention on the possibility that Russia could work to aid President Donald Trump’s reelection. Democratic rival Sen. Bernie Sanders has said intelligence officials told him that Russia was looking to boost his candidacy, too.

Taking a page from the CIA on how to foment insurrection in a country. It appears to be working to a degree too. Millions of Americans think Trumps election was illegitimate. Millions of different Anericans will feel the same way if Bernie pulls this off.

The Russians got lucky beyond their wildest dreams when they actually got their useful idiot, Donald Trump, elected as president of the US.
Now he's the mole they always feared.

Re: FBI official says Russia wants to see U.S. ‘tear ourselves apart’
Looking over some past posts, I find that eds and I had this discussion:
I'm convinced that Putin now has a program(s) that he now pumps down the pipeline to his mole in the White House. As we near the end of Trump's tenure, Putin is now sending the heavy artillery down the pipeline lest he lose the opportunity.
Putin has engineered the funding of the Republican Party through the NRA, and with that in place: the exit of the US from Syria, a substantial pull-out from Afghanistan, hostility with NATO, alienation of the US with China, Canada and Mexico, a pull-out of 12,000 US troops from Germany (leaving Russia in command of Europe), frozen relationships with other nations in the Americas, the re-emergence of North Korea as a power and managed a huge divide inside the US ideology, and now, attacked even voting, the very mechanism of our system.
Perhaps the most devastating attack on the US that Putin has managed is the introduction of Covid-19 to the western nations...the US most of all. Yes, with all the other peculiar disasters to befall the west, the introduction of the virus can't be mere chance. Following on its heels, Putin has stimulated the economic disaster of a second Great Depression, and civil unrest over treatment of blacks in America, and now the attack of the mechanics of democracy itself: questioning the validity/veracity of the vote itself.
Good job, Vlad. You’ve managed to make Niccolò Machiavelli look like a suburban dad. You're an artist...

You should start a whole new thread about this one.
Perhaps we could have a section called “Alternate thinking” or something similar.
But it's no longer 'alternative'. Strange occurrences have become mainstream. When did 'presidential character' come to mean rude and abusive? When did presidential candidates start grabbing pussy? And the lies...lies to the left of us, lies to the right, right down thru the middle we face lies. That's not alternative...that's the here and now. Remember how surprised we all were that Trump got elected? Seems everybody was surprised, because 3-million more votes went to Clinton than Trump. WTF? When did the US cease to be a democracy?
Indeed, when did Mexico become a hate target? And Muslims banned from entering the country? When did the US go from being a nation of rights, to a nation of hate? Why do we now hate the international relationships we built? NATO, an organization we initiated, is now the enemy. When did we start hating Canada, with that "pussy Prime Minister named Pierre something?" How about destroying trade with China, the second richest economy in the world? Since when did tariffs become a levy on the other guy, instead of a tax on ourselves? And Mexico will pay for it! And we need to throw away $40-billion in corporate welfare as a result of our economic war with China?? Whatever happened to austerity and private initiative?
And then the US government starts checking in with Moscow to see if certain policy decisions are to their liking? Then there's that debacle in Helsinki, when Trump is seen licking the bony little ass of Vladimir Putin. Does that seem normal to you, eds?
What about the assault on law and order, the firing of the FBI Chief because he wouldn't let a criminal get off...when was the last time I saw such a thing...Oh, John Gotti, head of the Gambino Crime family. And violations of the Constitution? OMG! An Attorney General who is a hatchet man? A Supreme Court Justice appointment who is a serial, gang rapist? A Health Department Secretary who goes on a 4-year vacation, while gutting the provisions for health in the nation? Complete disregard for Congress and it's oversight function? Indeed, complete disregard for congressional subpoenas. And declaring a national emergency to build a wall? (That one I might give him a pass on. We could use the National Emergency Act to create a fully funded healthcare system in the US. If a mere wall is important enough to justify a national emergency, then surely American lives and the well-being of American health is the equivalent.)
These monumental, even catastrophic events have the touch of someone from the outside...someone who is dismissive, or at least not familiar with American traditions. Someone who has Kompromat on American officials, but who causes outrageous blunders in pursuit of his mission. These events are so amazing that I can't see incremental creep as to motivator. So I believe someone from the outside—Vladimir Putin—has the ability to manipulate events in America. It wouldn't be hard; it would just take a concerted effort of someone, to locate the parts of the central nervous system (Congress & Senate...plus a President), and discover the buttons to push--especially in the new environment of the World Wide Web.

I'm leaning toward that persuasion. Even Republicans are wondering wtf is he doing? He once had his reasons lined up, but now that it's down to helter-skelter--the up-coming election and him losing in the polls and all--Trump has lost his patina of reason.
Why does Trump not impose sanctions on Russia for putting a bounty on American soldiers? Why the panic to have American soldiers vacate Germany? Why not do what the experts say when it comes to the Trump virus? Why blame China all-too-enthusiastically? It all has no reason…except it benefits Russia. There's no rhyme nor reason for Trump's behavior...but that his sponsors are running scared themselves. Putin is trying to get as much out of his mole as he can, before he is burned.
Watch carefully the actions of the Manhattan DA, who has just won in the Sup. Ct. the right to obtain the Trump Enterprises financial records. I'll bet they find a huge, fat line-of-credit, underwritten by an anonymous benefactor/angel at the Moscow branch of Deutsche Bank. See, Harding, Luke, Collusion: Secret Meetings, Dirty Money, and How Russia Helped Donald Trump Win (2016). That would explain the sudden largesse of Trump enterprises in 2010, including the $640-billion that was owed to Deutsche Bank itself, which was formerly in litigation, and suddenly dropped as a debt satisfied.
Trump is doing all he can do hold on to his throne of privilege, and the immunity that goes with it. Everything will be breaking this Fall.

He is one of their useful idiots. Their mission is to spread discord and they use people like him. Unwittingly perhaps, but they use him just the same .

Child...are we playing a juvenile game, now?
Trump says anyone who investigates Russian espionage, is therefore engaging in espionage him or herself. And you are saying, anyone who questions a Russian mole, is part of that espionage. Isn't that the old 'I'm rubber/you're glue' game?
You seem to be playing a different game than everyone else...

Denial! Shift the blame! You sound an awful lot like Trump: 'one or two people will be sick', 'maybe fifteen', 'It will be gone by Memorial Day'. 'Masks are for wimps'. 'Forget the CDC, everything is improving'. 'Schools should reopen!' 'China caused it all'. 'The WHO was complicit'. 'Democratic governors are the ones to blame'.
Your state, Texas, and the south in general, are the reason why the southern states are the hotbed of the Trump virus. The Governors of Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and Arizona are so anxious to kiss Trump's ass, that they have tossed medical science to the wind. They follow the political whims of a madman instead.
The north has treated the Trump virus intelligently, notwithstanding the dithering idiots in the White House. The north has followed lock-downs, social distancing and mask-wearing, and stayed out of pool parties and other social gatherings. As a result, they have managed very well. The south has done just the opposite, and look, they are dying in droves. It's very consistent with what I have always said: north = intelligent, well-planned, wealthy vs. south = intellectually lazy, slovenly, self-destructive. Now you see it happening. The Trump virus cares nothing for political parties; it is a purely impartial opportunist. Who is giving the virus the opportunity to infect? Southerners!
Need I say more?
