Racism Against East Asians

An east Asian man who was violently assaulted and robbed by two teenagers shouting “coronavirus” at him has warned that the spread of the disease has created “a climate of racism” in the UK.

Silawattakun says he was travelling home in the late afternoon to west London when he was attacked on his local high street in full view of dozens of passersby. The Thai man, who works in the City, was left stunned and bleeding with a broken nose as one assailant stole his headphones and the other filmed the attack on his phone.

I've heard from east Asian and Asian-British friends that they've had to endure racist abuse and dirty looks far more frequently recently as a result of the virus outbreak. Despite living in Britain for years, or being born there, and so having nothing to do with China or the virus.

Yes teenage boys are stupid at times. As a former teenage boy I have first hand experience.

I hope to grow out of it in a few more years.

In my experience, twats like those who did this tend to learn their hatred at home. The kids are responsible, but so are the parents. The problem is people allow passive racism to go by all the time, and then shit like this happens.

There seems to be a world-wide regression of common sense and decency. Racism, meanness, hatred and just low-life scumbags have been increasing. We have it in the US with Trump and his Nazi worshipers.

I think it's always there, but it depends on how near the surface it gets. Much as pc is unpopular with RW'ers, it does shame would be racists and fascists from being open and obvious. It takes a Trump or a Hitler to embolden them, and that's when it floats closer to the surface.

At work recently, if someone sneezes, we all shout “Coronavirus!” as a joke, but to target Asians? That is beyond ignorant.
