Virginia bans guns at 2nd Amendment rally
Virginia, which has gone completely Democratic since the advent of Trump and the Russo-Republicans, has banned guns for this year's rally to support the Second Amendment.
You might remember that on May 13, 2017, Neo-Nazis, supported by impeached President Trump, engaged in their murderous rampage in Charlottesville, shouting slogans against blacks, women, Jews, Muslims, and menacing people with drawn, loaded guns. One person was actually killed...albeit, by ramming an automobile into a crowd.
This time Democratic Governor Ralph Northam took steps to stop any further murdering, by declaring an emergency to ban guns from the rally. Gun enthusiasts are complaining, apparently claiming their right to kill anyone they want.

Trial on removal of the President begins tomorrow. Got my fingers crossed. A full trial, or a cover-up?

MLK was no stranger to guns. Nothing wrong with exercising freedom on MLK day.

And there are thousands of heavily armed people at the rally. They are just staying outside of the pens designed by a tyrant.

How convoluted has our reasoning become: my right to take another's life?? Doesn't comfort one as much as the other rights.

No doubt the loyalists 240 years ago spoke of common sense.
MLK applied for a gun permit and was surrounded by armed men most of the time. Some would say disarming the negro of the time was just "common sense".
Telling people they have a lost constitutional right and forcing them to protest from in a fucking cage is not common sense.

I wonder what the percentage of Americans are that are both interested in a monarchy from which we revolted against, and want gun control are?

Virginia Gov. Northam Smears Gun Control Opponents to Frighten His Base.
https://reason.com/2020/01/20/virginias-governor-undermines-his-own-authority-by-smearing-gun-control-opponents/
Much like Trump does with immigrants. It's pitiful how easily people can be manipulated by fear.
We have two large masses of scared people squaring off against each other, with their leaders ramping up the fear to encourage their bases.

Re: Virginia bans guns at 2nd Amendment rally
In order for a meme to hit home, it must have a certain logic or situation behind it. When Lurker posts memes, it's not just attaching a picture with person.
You don't just mention Hitler, and then post a picture of the person you want to criticize next to him. That is sophomoric. It reminds me of a childhood rhyme:
Sticks and stones,
May break my bones,
But names and faces,
Will never hurt me.
I don't know why I have to continually remind RW'ers of this. I guess it's because they continually engage in copy-cat metaphors with the left. It's as if they are saying, we can do that too! Only, it has no basis in fact.

Good point! Words--the gravamen of the First Amendment--are the civilized way; guns are not. Guns are not designed for rational debate; they are meant to terminate rational debate.

Re: Virginia bans guns at 2nd Amendment rally
The reason he applied for a gun permit and had armed guards was because he was receiving active death threats. But sadly a good guy with a gun didn’t save him
In the end did it?
These people you are posting are not receiving death threats. And if they were, how many guns do they need? They only have 2 hands.
The 2nd amendment was written at a time when this country was actively at war. They also had no concept of what technology has brought. Documents change, are living things. The irony is that the the 2nd amendment is an amendment. There have been lots of others. In a civilized society, open access to guns is not needed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I never felt scared living in other county where people did not think it necessary nor needed nor had access to guns but being back here I do feel scared and I resent it. What about my rights? Have a handgun for protection and a rifle for hunting but beyond that nothing else is required. Taking away so many guns won’t stop killings by guns. That’s unrealistic, but not having easy access to them will significantly lower accidents and suicides and killings.
But have fun posting pictures.

Of course he was receiving death threats. That's why he wanted to be armed. the folks with "common sense" denied him that permit.
The second amendment, along with the rest of the constitution was written 4 years after the war.

And for the record, there was no violence, no arrests, no property damaged.
There was nothing to fear, even though that didn't stop folks from pedaling fear, because fear works.

Re: Virginia bans guns at 2nd Amendment rally
Reporters expressed their grief and condolences as the violence they hyped has so far failed to materialize.
"Nobody has so much as fired a shot. This is an unbelievable tragedy," said one teary-eyed MSNBC reporter, clearly caught up in the anguish of the moment. "It's tragic that we live in a country where reporters who are just minding their own business trying to push a narrative can have everything ripped away from them in an instant when protesters refuse to shoot at people."

No he was denied it because he had been in jail and was black. The people who denied him did not want a black man fighting for civil rights to be armed. They didn’t want anyone other than white people to be armed. Fear of retribution is my guess.
The point is, if those making the threats didn’t have guns, then he would not have needed to apply for a permit. It’s a vicious circle which we are all caught up in now.
Written 4 years after but the threat was still very real. 1812 remember but they were also still close by and skirmishes were happening on land and sea.
Not recently. I was going to cross for lunch when my family were here but we took the grandkids to Jumanji 2 instead as my son’s partner didn’t bring her passport and the kids don’t have one yet. Apparently I missed out in some awesome tacos.

Correct. The connection is that it was the experience of the Revolutionary War that prompted the 2nd Amendment.
Causation in history is rarely simultaneous. It takes a 'before-and-after' shape: cause creates effect. Four years is but a speck in the course of time.

It's amazing how well folks behave when everyone is armed.

Statement of Governor Ralph S. Northam on Lobby Day Demonstration
RICHMOND—We are all thankful that today passed without incident. The teams successfully de-escalated what could have been a volatile situation. This resulted from weeks of planning and extensive cooperation among state, local, and federal partners in Virginia and beyond.
Virginia’s law enforcement and first responders demonstrated tremendous professionalism. I’m proud of their work. I have spoken with Colonel Settle of the State Police, Colonel Pike of the Capitol Police, and Chief Smith of the Richmond Police Department, as well as leaders of the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office, and thanked them for keeping Virginia safe.
Thousands of people came to Richmond to make their voices heard. Today showed that when people disagree, they can do so peacefully. The issues before us evoke strong emotions, and progress is often difficult. I will continue to listen to the voices of Virginians, and I will continue to do everything in my power to keep our Commonwealth safe.
God that pompous ass is full of shit.

Americans are the most well armed people in the world - how is that working out? Check deaths from guns and mass shooting ratios in developed nations before getting back to me.

Unfortunately, this is the paranoia that embracing conspiracy theories delivers. Once in the world of allegation detached from fact, anything goes.

How many people were shot today? Criminals obviously are a problem. Governor Blackface is more worried about the folks that showed up today, who are obviously not a threat ( if you leave them alone). They are political opponents though. Unfortunately, that's what's really important.

I think we need to look beyond a single place on a single day
My point still stands - more guns = more gun deaths, not less.

Not always. More deaths is usually down to far more factors than gun ownership.
And some gun deaths are justified to save innocent life.
But this thread is about the events of today. Thousands of gun owners from different backgrounds, managed to have a very peaceful protest while armed to the teeth.

Thanks to the measures taken by Governor Northam, the day went without incident.
So different from Charlottesville, 2017. That's proof that removal of guns means no lives lost.

Regardless, having guns makes more deaths infinitely more likely. A wacko or a fundamentalist or generic thug is dangerous with a knife, might even manage to kill a few folks before being taken out. The same person with a gun could kill a many, a dozen or even hundreds.

Maddog, do you get really really excited every time you find a black person who worships guns as much as you do?
