Prostate cancer set to become most common form of disease, with half of cases diagnosed late
Prostate cancer is set to become the UK’s most common form of cancer within a decade, amid warnings that more than half of cases are being diagnosed late, a major report warns.
The research shows deaths from the disease have reached a record high - with more than 12,000 cases a year, up almost a fifth in a decade
The new analysis shows that just 47 per cent of cases are being spotted at an early stage, when it is far less deadly.
Despite medical advances in the field, and Government pledges to speed up diagnosis, that figure has remained stubbornly unchanged since 2012.
Experts warned that without major breakthroughs, the disease is set to replace breast cancer as the most common form of cancer being diagnosed in the UK.
While deaths from breast cancer have fallen five per cent in a decade those from prostate cancer have risen 17 per cent, the research shows.

One of the leading reasons for such increases in men's health problems in general, would have to include that 'most' men --
Go to the doctor less;
Admit to problems less;
Don't want to face up to even the the possibility of some problems..
So that many problems, particularly some cancers, and especially some mental problems (especially depression..), are being diagnosed later than some equivalents will be in women, or in children if others are looking out for them.

Fair points, and the above was a factor with my Bro who died of prostrate and bone cancer. I think a major part is that like breast cancer that is the genetic link/risk factor
I think also more research and money has been put into other forms of cancer. hence less money and research has happened in regards to this cancer.

And then there's the additional factor that men are living longer, on average...
So that some cancers and other diseases that would have been in early stages in previous generations when many men died, are now getting more opportunities to advance further..

And many aspects of modern civilisation adding more exposure to more possible 'carcinogens' in the environment -- pollutants (industrial and chemical, pesticides and synthetic fertisers, increased hormones in 'food chains' and water supplies, plastics..), low level radiation, exposure to more unusual viruses.
Never forgetting that many cancers are "multi causal" in nature -- so combining an extended life expectancy with increased risk factors, allied with better diagnosis, all lead to increases in certain conditions (e.g. cancers such as prostate cancer; and also other health problems such as mature onset diabetes, osteo-arthritis, depression..) in the overall population.

Here in Oz, cancers are the second leading cause of natural deaths among humans, after heart disease...
Prostate cancer is already # 3 for mortality rates from cancers, over here -- after lung and colorectal cancers, and ahead of breast and pancreatic..
