Islamic school in Birmingham unlawfully segregated students, favored boys, Ofsted reports
An Islamic school has been "unlawfully segregating" boys and girls for all activities except weekly assemblies.
Ofsted said pupils at Redstone Academy in Balsall Heath, Birmingham, were not safe and procedures were disorganised.
"Boys enjoy school more than girls. This is because they are treated favourably and have more privileges," an Ofsted report said.
The school's headteacher said the idea boys were given favourable treatment was "just not accurate".
The academy, which has 152 pupils and charges up to £2,885 in annual fees, was visited by Ofsted in November and rated as inadequate.
Of the privileges afforded to boys, such as more sport opportunities and first choice at work experience places, the report said: "Some of the girls told us that they do not like this. They said that this was not fair and feel disadvantaged."

This is why I think religious schools are always a bad idea, or at the very least, a bad thing waiting to happen. I have no problem with children being taught religion, but they need to be taught things outside the boundaries of any religion as well.
But the thought that this is going on just sickens me.

It seems to be about as religious as Texas Wesleyan, or TCU.
Two universities with nominal religious affiliations these days, teaching grown adults.
Not separating students by gender, or treating one gender more favorably than the other.
And not doing it to children.

Pretty sure you have to have a vagina to attend Wellesley. Not that I'm, opposed to schools that are geared to only one gender. Now, if you accept both genders, I think you should treat them equally if you separate them.
In this story, one group says that didn't happen, another said it did. My gut says that the boys were treated better based on the cultural and religious beliefs of the parents sending kids to this school, but some might say I'm being biased or even prejudiced.

Many, many universities and colleges started as religious. Rutgers University and Princeton University were both originally Calvinist institutions. Rutgers was the Dutch Calvinist school and Princeton was the Scots Calvinist school. Both are considered premium Presbyterian institutions today, turning out the elite of Presbyterian ministers.
Of course, as you have probably already figured out, almost every school named after a city in the US is a Jesuit school: University of Denver, University of Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, St. Louis, Wheeling, Buffalo, Boston College, Marquette, Seattle U, Santa Clara, Scranton--not all, just as not all schools with "State" in the name were Normal (teacher) colleges. Georgetown is a Catholic school and Temple University is a Jewish school. BYU and Southern Virginia are Mormon schools. USC is a Methodist school. The list is long.
