I wonder over the next 6 weeks, whetherDidge will turn into the spokesman for the Conservative central office Corbyn , Labour and opposition parties lies smears and misinformation department.
He has already started making a case for that reputation.

And that is the dilemma that we have. But at least Boris Johnson never showed support and succor for the terrorists who tried to assassinate his predecessor.

Well if you’re referring to the IRA that’s because he was and is pro-socialist and anti-imperialist, and therefore deems them not to be terrorists but freedom fighters.
--Yevette Renshy

The wikipedia page Jeremy Corbyn - Wikipedia clarifies his links with the IRA. Yes he has several times met with IRA members but according to Diane Abbot "he met with them in their capacity as activists in Sinn Fein". Sinn Fein is a legitimate political party supported by a good percentage of the Northern Irish population.

A careful distinction needs to be made between the cause and the method. Whilst the cause of a United Ireland is a legitimate political idea the method of terrorism with killings and bombings is not. --Richard Morris

I don’t know of any evidence that Jeremy Corbyn supports terrorism. However, he has been known to talk to groups who used terrorism.

It is always a difficult problem deciding how much to communicate with terrorists. On the one hand, it can be seen as giving them legitimacy. On the other hand, if you do not talk to them, you cannot get a proper idea of what they want. what the are prepared to concede, and if a negotiated peace is possible. Since well established terrorist groups are almost impossible to destroy, a negotiated peace is the only peace you are going to get.

The British government always said that they could never talk to the Provisional IRA. But in fact they did, covertly, which eventually brought about peace.

I think Jeremy Corbyn went too far in talking to, and giving public recognition to, terrorist groups. But this is a judgement call, and I do not think he ever supported terrorism. It does reflect (poorly) on how he might use his judgement in other cases, should he get real power in government. --Alec Cawley
