Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
Move over Amber Guyger, you are not alone in killing a person in-home. A Ft. Worth, Texas police officer, called to a home by a neighbor suspicious over open doors/windows, shot into the home and killed the woman.
CBS Dallas Ft Worth wrote:Fort Worth Police Officer Shoots, Kills Woman Inside Her Own Home
Raegan Scharfetter | CBSDFW.com
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) — A Fort Worth police officer shot and killed a woman inside her own home early Saturday morning.
Just before 2:30 a.m. Oct. 12, police responded to a welfare call in the 1200 block of E. Allen Avenue, where the front door to a residence was reported open.
When officers arrived, they searched the perimeter of the house and saw a person standing inside the residence, near a window.
In a statement released Saturday afternoon, the Fort Worth Police Department said an officer perceived a threat then drew his weapon. He fired one shot, striking and killing 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson.
Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officer — a white male who has been with FWPD since April 2018 — has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation. His name has not been released at this time.
Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price has since released the following statement:
Writing a statement like this is tragic and something that should never be necessary. A young woman has lost her life, leaving her family in unbelievable grief. All of Fort Worth must surround Atatiana Jefferson’s family with prayers, love and support.
Chief Kraus and his command staff are acting with immediacy and transparency to conduct a complete and thorough investigation. More details are forthcoming and the Tarrant County District Attorney Law Enforcement Incident Team office will ultimately receive this case.

In their statement, the Fort Worth Police said, in part: “The individual, a black female, who resides at the residence succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. The officer, a white male who has been with the department since April of 2018, has been placed on administrative leave [paid vacation] pending the outcome [of] the critical police incident investigation.”

Yeah... ok...
In the OP it is claimed she was in her home innocently playing video games with her 8 year old nephew... at 2.30am in the morning...
Although... the police didn't turn up there for nothing...

Why do you always automatically suspect any non-white victim of being somehow always guilty -- and therefore deserving of being killed, and their (most often 'white') killer being innocent, until proven otherwise ???
You really are making it a habit of posting up such self-defeating bullshit, seemingly every time some incompetent and unqualified police officer murders an innocent civilian..

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
She was a college graduate, having completed a pre-med degree at Xavier University (New Orleans). She was headed to medical school when she had to drop out to take care of her sick mom. Not exactly the type of person headed for a career in crime.
A neighbor across the street noticed her door and windows were open (probably because of the heat) and called/asked the police to drive by and perform what they call a welfare check.
The officer arrived and checked the exterior perimeter of the house. Then he stopped at a bedroom window, and noticed movement inside. He yelled "show your hands", and waited exactly (experts have timed it) .06 of a second before shooting.
Southern life at its finest. Dallas/Fort Worth may be a fine community for whites, but it's genetically unhealthy for blacks. If you happen to have been born with negroid genes you are in for rough time.

They showed up for a welfare check. A neighbor called for a non emergency check as the front door was open.
All the cops had to do was yell police in the front door while ringing the bell.

Police have released the body camera video of the officer who shot Ms. Jefferson, as the event unfolded.
https://abcnews.go.com/US/video/bodycam-shows-cop-shooting-killing-woman-home-66237479
There is no question. No speculation. No alt.truth. The officer faces a hearing today, in which he will answer questions. I'm sure internal affairs authorities have the same questions that you have.

USA Today wrote:Fort Worth police officer resigns after fatally shooting Atatiana Jefferson in her home
USA TODAY
John Bacon
A Fort Worth police officer who fatally shot a woman in her home while she played video games with her 8-year-old nephew has resigned from the force but still could face criminal charges, the interim police chief said Monday.
Chief Ed Krauss said Aaron The Devil You Know, who is white, would have been fired and is considered dishonorably discharged from the department. Krauss also said the U.S. Justice Department will examine the case for possible civil rights violations .
Atatiana "Tay" Jefferson, 28, was shot through the bedroom window of her home early Saturday by an officer conducting a welfare check. Hours before Krauss spoke Monday, family members held their own news conference demanding that the officer be fired and criminally charged.
Ashley Carr told reporters her sister was killed by the "reckless act" of the officer and said the federal government should take over the investigation.
"There is simply no justification for his actions," she said. "We demand justice for Atatiana through an independent and thorough investigation."
Added Jefferson's brother, Adarius Carr: "This man murdered someone. He should be arrested."
Investigators were scheduled to interview the officer Monday, police Lt. Brandon O’Neil said. Police also released audio of a neighbor's calm call to a non-emergency phone number that sent police to the home.
Jefferson, who was black, worked as a pharmaceutical sales representative. The officer, who is white, has served on the force for 18 months, police said. The shooting took place less than two weeks after former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was convicted of murdering Botham Jean, a black man shot in 2018 as he ate ice cream in his home.
S. Lee Merritt, a lawyer for Jefferson's family, said police not only violated Jefferson's rights but also made "common sense" mistakes. And he called release of a photo of a gun found in the bedroom "obscene," saying no connection had been made between the gun and the shooting.
Mayor Betsy Price, speaking before Krauss, agreed Monday that the gun found in Jefferson's home was "irrelevant."
"Atatiana was a victim... unjustly taken from her family," Price said.
Merrit said the victim's nephew told him the duo had been up late playing "Halo" – with the doors open to enjoy the cool fall breeze – when they heard noise outside her bedroom window.
"They looked at each other and listened more intently when they heard it again," Merritt said in a social media post. "Someone was outside."
Merritt said the nephew described how his aunt went to the window to see who was there.
"Suddenly a man's voice was screaming something he couldn't make out, and then 'bang,'" Merritt said. Jefferson fell to the floor. Merritt said he didn't ask the child what he saw next because he didn't want him "to have to relive that" with him.
"I’m hurt. I’m angry. I’m a little afraid when I’m honest," Merritt said. "I hate this happened to (the nephew). I hate it happened to Tay and her beautiful family. This has to stop now. Enough."
O'Neil said neighbor James Smith called police at 2:23 a.m. Saturday morning, telling the dispatcher it was "not normal" for his neighbors to have the doors open and lights on at that hour.
Two officers arrived six minutes later. They did not park in front of the house, O'Neil said. Body camera video released by police shows officers, armed with guns and flashlights, circling the home. An officer stops at a window.
The video ends with an officer shouting, "Put your hands up, show me your hands" before the sound of one gunshot. Jefferson was killed with a bullet fired through her bedroom window.
O'Neil confirmed what the video appeared to show – that the officer never identified himself as police. He also confirmed that Jefferson's nephew was in the room.
Activist Cory Hughes said the community wanted more than a suspension for the officer.
"What we are looking for is for this officer not only to be fired but to we are demanding that his officer be charged as well, like the criminal that he is," Hughes said. "This life mattered. This family matters.
This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Fort Worth shooting: Family demands justice
I gather he was asked to resign after the hearing today. It was less than a second after demanding she show her hands that he shot and killed the victim. Why did he even bother?
He never identified himself as police.

Nope. There is video.
The cop is in deep shit, as he should be.
The mayor (an assault rifle owning conservative) is calling for an independent review of the whole department.
This fear was learned. It needs to be unlearned and that's a department problem across the US.

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
I'm not saying that this officer set out to murder a black woman -- in fact, I highly doubt it.
Where racism enters stories like this is when you consider whether the officer was more prepared to use deadly force, perhaps even without realizing it, because he was in a black neighborhood in the middle of the night and was afraid he'd be attacked for being white and a cop.
Personally, I suspect he's a jumpy guy who has no business being a police officer. But maybe he also has racist feelings that made him jumpier that night ... I hope that all makes sense.

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
This is all I'm asking:
Was the gun in the room, with her, and why?
Was the gun in her hand when he shot her?
Why did he shoot so quickly? (maybe the above question is why he shot her so quickly)
In any case, it would appear he may have overreacted, but the full story needs to be heard before we assume anything

Nobody admits to being a racist. But, by process of elimination, that is the only conclusion. See, Hazelwood School Dist. v. United States, 433 U.S. 299 (1977), a Supreme Court case that decided that statistics could play a leading role in showing a prima facie case of discrimination under Title VII. What it did was verify that the process of elimination could show a pattern of discrimination.

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
Yeah... so... she was up playing halo at 2.30am with her 8 year old nephew, in her bed room... and just had all the doors left open to let a nice breeze through... and this was a normal and regular occurrence in her household...
So normal... that a neighbour called the police to report this situation as being highly unusual... and extremely concerned for the safety of their neighbour..
And... given that this is said to be such a "black" neighbourhood... where it is suggested that a police officer might be particularly worried to even be there... would it really be considered to be a normal and regular and safe thing for this woman to have been sitting up playing adult rates video games whilst caring for an 8 year old child and leaving all the doors open, at 2.30am...!!!???
And whilst also having a real gun laying around in the room with them...!!!???
This stinks...

Not just a black neighborhood, but in any situation in which a police officer in America confronts a black.
Right, it would necessarily be the "neighborhood" in this case cause presumably the officer did not see Ms. Jefferson before he shot her.
But the same apprehension is raised in any situation in which the police must deal with blacks. It goes beyond the neighborhood.

Well, you do realize that America was going through a huge heat wave due to the climate theory. Texas set some records. Having lived in Arizona, I can attest that if you haven't got AC, allowing the night breeze to flow through the house is the only way to get some sleep. This was confirmed by the statement of the nephew given to the police.
Tommy Monk wrote:So normal... that a neighbour called the police to report this situation as being highly unusual... and extremely concerned for the safety of their neighbour..
The neighbor said in his statement, that he had doubts that there was any nefarious activity going on. He stressed that to the police, and he was the one who suggested that the police only make a "welfare check".

What are "adult rates video games" and how do they figure into the story? I haven't seen any mention of that. As for the gun, this is Texas. They name their football teams the "Cowboys" and their state police the "Rangers", both of whom carry guns, at least in the movies. The point is, everybody has a gun in Texas.

She was a concealed carry holder. She has a right to a weapon. There is nothing odd about any of this.
It was a cool evening for the first time in months.
She was probably trying to give her AC and her checkbook a break.

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
I keep thinking that we need to know more about the call. Did the neighbor dial 911? That seems a bit unlikely -- I remember seeing a neighbor's door standing open when I knew he wasn't home, so I called the non-emergency number.
Of course, if it was a 911 call, that could immediately have the officer in a jumpier frame of mind.
Also, I think it's important to know what information was exchanged in the phone call. Didn't the police ask for a description of the woman, and relay the description to the officer?
If not, that's shoddy police work. If the officer did have a description of the woman, it makes it harder to believe she might have been an intruder.
Like I said earlier, there's a LOT we still don't know about this story, and it's a bit foolish to say it was based on racism before the facts come out.

I think your husband made a good point in that the cop had to have been aware he was in a black neighborhood. By a process of elimination, his behavior means that he probably had an opinion or pov that blacks are criminals. That fits in with the whole setting...southern state, guns are necessary, blacks are dangerous, or so the theory goes.

He called the non emergency number. I listened to the call. He never mentioned anything about a threat or a crime. He very calmly asked for the police to just check on the home as the door had been open for a while.
He feels like shit now.

Claim is that she was up playing an adult rated video game with her 8 year old nephew at 2.30am... "halo" is an adult rated video game...
Plus had left all the doors open as to allow a breeze through house...
All perfectly normal regular behaviour... so much so that a neighbour called police to report the doors being open at this time was highly unusual and concerned for the safety and well being of those in the house...!
Oh... and she had a gun just sitting there with her and her nephew, at 2.30am too...
Again... all perfectly normal and regular behaviour... yes...!?
Or... all sounds a bit iffy... and obviously some more shit was going on that is not being mentioned...!?

The phone call is on tape. I've heard it. The caller is stressing that both cars were in the driveway, and he was dismissive of anything suspicious, except he had never seen the doors of the house left open.
He said in an interview afterwards, that he wishes he hadn't called the police. Because the way the police behaved was out of character with the whole series of events, and Ms. Jefferson would still be alive. He says he didn't mean to cause a ruckus.

I can take you to hundreds of homes in Ft Worth, where people are playing games late at night, with kids possibly too young for those games. It was a weekend. They will also have fairly quick access to a handgun if they hear sounds outside, like she did. This is Texas. The cops were frankly stupid as shit to not try to make contact with the homeowners. We can legally shoot trespassers after dark.
Leaving the door open is a little odd, but it happens. I've seen the police perform welfare checks in the past. They knock on the door first because the most likely scenario is someone forgot to shut a door. The second is a medical emergency.
At no point of the call to the police, did the neighbor mention seeing anyone on the property. Assuming that someone in the home is someone other than the resident is idiotic.

Wiki wrote:Halo is a military science fiction media franchise centered on a series of video games managed and developed by 343 Industries, a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios. Halo was originally developed by Bungie Studios. The series centers on an interstellar war between humanity and an alliance of aliens known as the Covenant. The Covenant, led by their religious leaders called the Prophets, worship an ancient civilization known as the Forerunners, who perished while defeating the parasitic Flood. The central focus of the franchise builds off the experiences of Master Chief John-117, one of a group of supersoldiers codenamed Spartans, and his artificial intelligence (AI) companion, Cortana. Other characters, such as Noble Six from Halo: Reach, are also introduced in the series. The term "Halo" refers to the Halo Array: a group of immense, habitable, ring-shaped superweapons that were created by the Forerunners to destroy the Flood, but which the Covenant mistake for religious artifacts that, if activated, would transport them on a Great Journey to meet the Forerunners.
Doesn't sound very adulty to me.

All sounds a bit odd, to me...
Think there is lit more to this story than what is being claimed...!

Body camera footage of the shooting shows two officers using flashlights to check the perimeter of the house, inspecting two doors that are open with closed screen doors. At the back of house, The Devil You Know appears to see a figure through a dark window, and he quickly twists his body to the left.

Nothing that odd about having your doors open, behind closed screened doors on a cool night in Texas.
I've done it a hundreds of times.

So...by process of elimination, you see a black woman and immediately think 'racist'.
So you assume. Until you know the facts, you are only assuming. Jeez Quill, I'm not a lawyer and even I know that that!

What facts do you need? I gave you Hazelwood School Dist. v. United States. Read the facts of that case, in the opinion of that case...fill in the blanks. End of...

A repeat of that cop killing the Aussie woman in Minneapolis...
In that case, though, it was an equally incompetent 'coloured' cop shot a white woman..
And that Minneapolis case was further exacerbated by attempted coverups early on by their police association/union, and added shit-stirrimg from a "black racists" group trying to make the cop the victim, and his actual victim the wrongdoer.

Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
Cop is out on $200,000 bail.
Authorities are baffled as to why the officer did not announce himself as POLICE, and why, .06 seconds after ordering a show of hands, he fired away?
The officer is not cooperating. He has lawyered up presumably, and is giving no answers.
The Police Chief has asked the FBI to step in and investigate the matter as a Civil Rights violation, it was reported on Good Morning America this am. The FBI only has jurisdiction if the shooting was racially motivated, under 42 U.S.C.A. § 1983. Does the Police Chief know something that we don't? Or, has he concluded it was race-based on a process of elimination, as discussed above? What else could it be under the facts?

Even if he doesn't know whether it was racially motivated, it's a good PR move -- says he's going for full transparency and takes the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
Re: Ft. Worth Texas cop murders black woman in her own home
I just would add, growing up in Texas where window screens and screen doors are common, it can be really hard to make out any details of a person standing behind one.
My mother has a screened-in porch that you can hardly see anything through, let alone whether someone was a certain ethnicity.

Alas this student doctor never got to enjoy some ice cream like Amber Guyger's victim was, at the time he was shot. Her last act on this earth was staring out of some boring window (according to her killer).
