Cops probe Tory MP Peter Bone over alleged £100,000 benefit fraud

Police are investigating a Tory MP over an alleged £100,000 benefit fraud, it emerged last night.

Peter Bone, 61, has been questioned under caution by detectives as part of a year-long inquiry into whether his mother-in-law’s assets were deliberately concealed while she was in a care home.

Police raided the MP’s constituency home in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, last year and seized documents understood to relate to the investigation.

A file on the case has been sent to the Crown Prosecution Service, whose special crime division is considering whether or not to press charges.

The investigation stems from fears that taxpayers’ money may have been wrongly used to fund care for Mr Bone’s mother-in-law, Dorothy Sweeney, 81.

Mrs Sweeney has lived in a privately owned home for the elderly in Northamptonshire - which charges up to £26,250 per resident - for seven years.

For at least part of that time some of her care fees were paid by Northamptonshire County Council because she appeared not to have enough assets to fund her own care.

It is understood the probe was triggered by the Conservative-led council over worries that social services staff may have been misled about the state of Mrs Sweeney’s finances.

If there is anything in this then this is one Tory MP who will regret all that he has said in the past about the poor and bragging about little ha paid someone working for him.

I thought this interesting. It is a big problem a couple spend their lives paying for their home and want to leave a legacy but it is taken by the council.

Now a person like say Karen Matthews or white Dee who has never done a tap and lives off the backs of other is defended to the hilt by you.

Interesting set of values there Irn Bru.

Since when did I defend the likes of Karen Matthews?

Your views appear to lean more to being ok to break the law when it suits. If that's your view then you are no better than Matthews.

Your views appear to lean more to being ok to break the law when it suits. If that's your view then you are no better than Matthews.

She is an example of the underclasses so beloved and robustly defended by the labour supporters like yourself. The issue over the state taking your home is I believe a contentious one to very many people. My point was we repay long hard work with confiscation yet pay the low lifes like Matthews who pay nothing do nothing and expect everything of the people who actually care enough to work. Shame isn't it working and saving are so little valued by you Socialist.

I do not defend this guy if he has deliberately broken the law though he has to be whiter than white as an MP.

I don't know of any people that have defended Matthews but if you have evidence that they have then lets see it?

Just as well you are saying now that you are not defending him because in your last post you were actually making excuses for him.

And the bloody cheek of some RW on here banging on about Labour MP,s fraud as well pedophilia, when the Conservatives have a track record of their own in these dirty matters, corruption and sleaze, to equal or beat that of any other party...

It's wrong for any MP of any party to commit fraud, and that is the real issue, regardless of party, none of them should be defended for stealing public money.
