Dominic Cummings
How could we, the British people , allow a non elected fascist like Cummings become the de facto Prime Minister?
He is now a hard line, far right , extremist bully and is running the show and is laying down his policies.
Boris is doing his every bid.

You can preach all you like, Andy, but McDonnell has just shown that he and the vicious thugs from Momentum are really in charge of Labour and they are so hard Left that they are almost off the edge of the cliff.
McDonnell is threatening to send Corbyn in a cab to make demands of the Queen and Head of State, for God's sake.
I really fear for the future of this country now.

Re: Dominic Cummings
Bit of a deflection there, Fred.
This thread isn't about Labour.
Didge posts plenty of those.
It is about our present government.
Any comment on the non elected Cummings, who is pulling the strings and deciding policy,,?

Re: Dominic Cummings
Seems there is a svengali behind every powerful leader.
Blair had Alistair Campbell & Peter Mandelson as his confidantes. They also doubled up as spin doctors.
Trump had Bannon & Stephen Miller.
Theresa May had 3 strategist advisers, forgotten their names - she sacked them all anyway after her woeful election results.
(The Russian Royals had Rasputin lol)
Boris has Dominic Cummings, the brilliant but ruthless strategist who is entrusted to mastermind everything.

Funny how the rwers here are steering clear of this thread. Perhaps they know that Cummings is dangerous to democracy,.

Re: Dominic Cummings
At least they are elected MP's.
Boris has no mandate to lead from 99.8% of the population and Cummings has NIL mandate, as he has been appointed, not elected.
And Boris is dancing to his tune.

Since I'm regarded as one of your rwers (sic) I can honestly say that I've only just seen it.
As Jules rightly says, most powerful rulers have an eminence grise constantly whispering over their shoulder: Cardinal Richelieu had his Francois Leclerc du Tremblay; George W Bush had his Dick Cheney, Elizabeth 1 had her John Dee.....the list is endless.
One could reasonably argue that Blair's Alistair Campbell was actually the moving force behind the "dodgy dossier"...and we all know the tragic results of that!
And I guess that all of them were described, at one point or another, as "dangerous to democracy" by people who were politically opposed to their masters.

At least he hasnt threatened to (illegally and unconstitutionally) arrest and imprison MP's of an opposing party, nor has he suggested enacting "retrospective laws" (also illegal and highly unconstitutional ) to give himself a reason...unlike that hard left twite....

Come on, Vic...you surely don't think that MacDonnell would either recognise or respect the words "legal" and "constitutional" if they meant stopping Corbyn being propelled into Downing Street (at least until he himself could wrest power from the old duffer) by the back door do you?

He's clearly a very unpleasant character - if we are to believe what we read in the Press, something that is no doubt over-egged and embellished in the Labour and far Left forums to which you apparently contribute.
Special advisors of all parties - and I've known quite a few in my time - are generally disliked and distrusted by journalists, and vice versa, because part of an advisor's job is to try to impose management of the news by sanctioning the release only of "spun" Press statements about his minster's departmental dealings while a journalist's role is to dig around and to discover something that the minister would prefer to keep out of the public domain.
What surprises me, Andy, is that you rail against such people for being unelected by popular suffrage while seemingly fawning over our ultimate form of governance ( the European Union in the case of most of Contenental Europe) that is conducted by a self-perpetuating dictatorship of unelected bureaucrats and enforced by a panel of judges who are empowered to overrule the decisions of sovereign governments and their supreme judicial bodies.
I don't approve of the covert powers of special advisors and I really know what to think about Cummins as a personality, because I've never met him. All I can say is that if a head of department had ever said to me (allegedly) "...if you don't like the way I run things you can fuck off. There's the door," I would have been tempted to oblige him, if only to make a point. One does not get the best out of junior colleagues by abusing them.
But nor would I care to believe implicitly everything about him that emanates from the pens of political writers of The Guardian or the Daily Mirror...or indeed from your own Coterie of Comrades internet site.

Where???
I hope he tells me where these "far left" sites are so that I can go take a look. I will criticise him personally if it's true!
Moderate sites which lean slightly to the left - fine, no problem.
But far left sites? - no way! I would tell him off myself.
He's a friend so I can speak to him honestly.

Why? Andy asked a question seeking comments on his own particularly critical observations on a Tory special adviser and my own comment was that every administration, including Labour, has its shadowy and often politically extreme advisers and unelected influencers. Andy then went into his usual sulk about me trying to change the subject when what I posted was perfectly true and perfectly relevant to the topic. But because it might have been construed as being critical of his beloved Labour Party, he went into a huff, as he so often does.
Perhaps he should learn that there are two sides to an argument and that he is not the sole font of knowledge and wisdom here.
