Welcome To The Thin-Skinned Generation, Where Everything is A Bloody Problem.
In fact, it doesn’t have anything to do with what anyone is saying most of the time.
This is my opinion, and 100% my opinion, but I am of the belief that…
People today have been trained to seek out a reason to be offended.
Because we, as parents, educators, friends, family members, and society in general, are formulating systems that promote sensitivity.
Instead of resilience.
And the problem is, we are doing this unknowingly.
Where the right thing is seemingly being done, the thickness of people’s skin continues to erode under our nose. Invisible to us.
There were many hardships faced by our forefathers which we can’t relate to, because we live in a society where as a baseline rule, people aren’t dying from:
Hunger,
Simple infections, or,
Working fourteen-hour days just to put food on the table.
Lifestyle-wise our species is much better off. Struggling to meet these essential needs does not take up a great deal of our mental processing.
It, however, leaves us with more time to dwell on our emotions and feelings. And on the respect and appreciation of others’ feelings.
And consequently, energy is exerted into developing laws, structures, policies, and systems, foreseeing situations where people’s feelings and well-being may be compromised. One building block onto the next, and here we are today wrapped in these tight bubbles that protect us.
The bubble known as “politically correct”.
Any step outside this space and the terrain is full of land mines. It’s hard not to have shit blow up.
Don’t lead people towards mediocrity.
Don’t create insecurities.
Don’t crush their grit.
We already have enough people ready to lash into a keyboard war about racism, sexism, and other nonsense in the comment section of any YouTube video at the drop of a hat.
Everyone is creating a way to be offended.
Something fell outside their bubble that we created, and hit a land mine. And for that we are the ones to blame.
We can’t continue to promote a culture of second-guessing and thinner skins. If intelligence was a measure of subscribing to social ideas, instead of questioning and challenging competing ideas and principles, then the world wouldn’t flourish and grow.
And, hence, we need more intelligent people. Less robots.

So people marginalized by the language others use shouldn't speak up for themselves; they should be doormats under the guise of being resilient.
Since when did we decide that standing up to bullies is weak, and that enduring bad treatment from bullies is strong?
Sounds like some 1984 bullshit to me.

Re: Welcome To The Thin-Skinned Generation, Where Everything is A Bloody Problem.
I think there's a very fine line between not frothing at the mouth when someone's deliberately trying to offend you and being a pushover who allows yourself to be bullied.
Surely there is a time to let things go, but also a time to take a stand.

Read the above quote. I don’t teach the kids to be offended or let them use the word “bullied”...do I?
That’s my point.
“Bullied” is another overused word. We need to be careful.

i don't understand this post, ben
you mean someone's feelings were hurt?
bullying is a different thing entirely
and of course people can and should speak up for themselves if they feel they are being bullied

Its right to stand up to an injustice, but today some people take the view that if anyone does not agree with them, they are offended
No matter whether they are on the left or right
Hence its getting to the point where people are offended at just about everything
.
Its gotten to the point where Nazi, fascist, Communist etc are meaningless
I mean some people are claiming that to be misgendered is violence towards Transpeople
Hence why is being pointed out is people are becoming perpetual victims over offense. There is a victim mentality actually being taught throughout Universities through studies like intersectionality for example, white priviliege. One of your fav's that seeks to classify people into an opression Olympics. People are based off what braches of the victimology tree they fit off. Not off anything that has happened to them. But based on a perceieved view around a identity group through marginilisation. Its gotten so bad, that in debates on twitter, you have people constantly telling the other to "check their privilege". Its getting to the point that people need trigger warnings within their studies on things they may find upsetting. So yes society is getting worse and worse due to not only a mollycuddling society but have left learning education, is turning future generations into taking offense at just about everything
The reality is yes to stand up to bullies, but when people are simple having discourse or debate. They are often wrongly classed as offensive.
This is spiralling further and further out of control and we are seeing this all the time

Re: Welcome To The Thin-Skinned Generation, Where Everything is A Bloody Problem.
Is a handful of people who are too easily offended a bigger problem than bigotry?
Because it's really starting to sound like the message here is, "Let bigots be bigots and stop being so sensitive."

Already said to stand up to injustice and I agree to stand up to bullying
Did you miss the point how many people are simple claiming people are bigots simple for not being in agreemnt with each other?

Being truly bullied is something quite different to being offended.

An example of what people here are saying is someone being too easily offended would help me out, tbh.
I think most people who take offense are genuinely offended and have the right to feel that way.

Sure.
"Some women are concered that Transwomen have an unfair advantage over biological woomen in sports"
This will be classed as offensive and transphobic by radical trans people
Even though there are trans people who also thin Transwomen have an unfair advantage over biological women in sports

years ago i knew a bloke who got badly bullied at his first job
they stuck lighted cigarettes in the hood and pockets of his coat and burnt it. they sabotaged his motorbike, called him names constantly and generally made his life hell. he ended up just leaving and going some place else
it's a completely different thing to something like this

No. We are bored. Well I am. Bored of the whiny arse attitude. They need to get a life and grow the fuck up.
It’s belittled the word “offended”. And really, who cares what others think of you?
And really, you personally, you’re rarely offended. Does that mean you have a thicker skin than others or are you just merely not a whiny-arse baby?

I mean, sure, it's boring and annoying, but is it a call to arms? Not to me.

Something that makes you get up and march in a protest, or send a bunch of angry emails to your political representatives. It's just not that big a deal to me, we're talking about a few ridiculous people with the power to do diddly squat besides embarrassing themselves.

The problem is though its not just a few individuals is it?
"Students at Yale bully sociology Professor Nicholas Christakis because his wife had the audacity to suggest, in an email, that students could, maybe, decide what Halloween costumes to wear by themselves."

Compared to the world population, these people are a drop in the ocean.
But they get the spotlight, because they've done something outrageous.
And people freak out, illogically concluding that this is the way the world is headed.

But that is where you are wrong ben. These are the next generation of potential leaders, that come from universities and colleges
Its spreading like a virus these poor courses, that are so divisive that is creating a generation of Kids who feel constantly victims in just about everything and its happenning in the most Liberal parts of the US, Like california, New York etc. Its happenning in the Uk, and starting to happenning in Australia. These kids are being set up to fail in life, because in the real world they will not know what hits them with reality
I read about stories like this all the time. Its not a one off. These kids think they are entittled to everything and be given everything on a plate. Of course its not all but its a very large minority and all because they are being taught the worst views around victimology, making them believe they are all victims. Its only going to get worse this
Thankfully the Professor in the first video has gone on to win awards.

You contradicted yourself, saying they're the next generation of leaders, but then saying they're being set up to fail. If they fail, they won't win too many leadership positions, I wouldn't think.
Unless you think that the world is ready to coddle these people throughout their lives, and that they're entering an environment in which being thin-skinned gives them an advantage, you really have nothing to worry about. Everyone knows university life is nothing like what happens when you graduate.

How is that a contradiction when leaders are continually failing at the moment?
The next generation though and we are already see this with the the social democrats is when they are constantly using victim status all the time. Look at Iham Omar, that when she receices genuine criticism. She uses intersectionality and claims she is being attacked for being Muslim and black. This is only going to get far worse with people acting like this;.

And what's more, these stories we hear of such people claiming victim status are often brought to the fore by people who have their own agenda. Could it be that we are currently diverting attention onto these 'whiney arsed babies' in order to ignore/dismiss ACTUAL bigotry that goes on?
It is a non-issue. And as you pointed out, those who ARE offended by things they shouldn't be are not likely to amount to much, let alone positions of authority.
And in any case, the current crop of politicians in both our countries (who are not, apparently, whiney arsed babies) are doing such a catastrophically bad job that whatever follows is not likely to be worse

Whataboutism yet again
As I already said look at how Politicians on the left espcially the social democrats in the US and even some Labour MP's over here constantly use this language to defect away from any genuine criticism aimed at them. They immediately invoked intersectional identity politics about themselves. Claiming they are being targeted over mutiple identies of themselves. Or within white people self loathing

Former Lawton Elementary School principal sues AAPS for ‘reverse discrimination’
Shannon Blick, former principal of Ann Arbor Public School District's Lawton Elementary School, is alleging the district ousted her in an act of “reverse discrimination,”according to her lawsuit against the school.
On May 1, Dawn Linden, Ann Arbor Public Schools executive director of Elementary Education, sent out a letter to the parents of students at Lawton Elementary School, reporting that Blick, who was principal at the time, was on a temporary leave of absence. With no formal reason provided or a specified time length, Dottie Davis, former Huron High School athletic director and assistant principal, assumed the role as “guest principal.”
Two months later, Blick, with aid from Ann Arbor attorney William Tishkoff, filed a $5 million lawsuit against Ann Arbor Public Schools, Superintendent Jeanice Swift, among other administrators. In addition to financial compensation, Blick is asking to be reinstated as principal of Lawton Elementary.
Blick claims the AAPS board and their key administrators “subject white administrators to hostility and harassment in the workplace based on their race; accelerate the promotion and advancement of African American and minority administrators at the expense and to the detriment of white administrators and refuse to ‘reasonably and properly investigate’ and take remedial action for, ‘reverse discrimination’ workplace complaints,” per her lawsuit.

Sixth grader dragged out of class for saying gender-confused boy ‘is a boy’
The school district claims he wasn’t punished. But it dragged him out of class for the day and warned him not to correctly identify the biological sex of a classmate again.
Liberty Counsel said an Ohio school district backed down after the religious liberty law firm warned that it could not punish a sixth grader for disagreeing with classmates who said a boy with gender dysphoria was actually a girl.
According to the narrative by Liberty Counsel in a press release and subsequent fundraising pitch, the school uniformly referred to the gender-confused male (“Boy A”) as a girl and used female pronouns for him.
In a redacted letter to the school district, Liberty Counsel said Boy A had started publicly identifying as a female this spring. It became “heavily discussed at the school, particularly by a group of girls” in John’s classes who quickly started treating Boy A as a girl and frequently discussing his “transition” with him in art class.

Re: Welcome To The Thin-Skinned Generation, Where Everything is A Bloody Problem.
I dislike the term "reverse racism". Racism is racism - there's nothing "reverse" about it. The same goes for "reverse discrimination".
As for Rosanna Arquette, she's doing nobody any favours. She's tellng people that she's ashamed of the colour of her own skin, and by extension, she's implying that others should be ashamed of being born a certain colour. How is that going to help anyone?

Teenager who went viral after arguing with his teacher that there are only two genders barred from returning to the school to finish his education
A teenager who went viral after arguing with his teacher that there are only two genders will not be allowed to return to the school where he filmed the confrontation.
The unnamed 17-year-old secretly filmed the moment he was reprimanded by a teacher at Mearns Academy in Aberdeenshire, who said his view on gender was not in line with school policy.
The video, which was uploaded to Reddit, was shared tens of thousands of times online. It later emerged that the student was suspended after the video emerged, and his school has now confirmed that he will not be allowed to return.
A fundraising page has also been set up for the boy, in an effort to raise up to $10,000 to cover getting him into new education and his living costs.
The boy has claimed staff told him not to return to the school in the wake of the incident.
A man claiming to be the teenager has given a recorded phone interview to the YouTuber who initially shared the story, explaining why he decided to film it and what happened afterwards.
