Two men targeted in an “appalling” homophobic knife attack by young boys as charities call for "action"

Two men were targeted in an “appalling” homophobic knife attack by young boys as charities urge the public to “take action and to come out for LGBT people”.

The men, aged in their 30s and who have not been identified, were approached by three boys aged 12-15 who made homophobic insults towards them before one of them produced a knife and assaulted the men.

One of the victims sustained injuries to his head and neck described as serious but non-life threatening while the second sustained a minor hand injury. The incident occurred in Merseyside on Saturday night as the two men were walking home. Both were taken to hospital for treatment and were left incredibly shaken by the incident.

A scene remains in place on Manningham Road and extensive enquiries are ongoing in the area as Merseyside police launched a hunt for the attackers and urged any witnesses or people with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
