The Writer Who Lost Her Book Deal After Calling Out A DC Metro Worker For Eating On The Train Is Suing The Publisher For $13 Million
Natasha Tynes — who said she got death threats, was forced to leave the US, and had suicidal ideations in the viral aftermath of her tweet — accused Rare Bird Books of subjecting “an immigrant woman of color to this racial torment.”
Before May 10, Natasha Tynes, a Jordanian American writer, a mother of three, the sole breadwinner of her family of five, and a communications officer for World Bank Group, was looking forward to the June release of her new book, They Called Me Wyatt. She’d worked on it for four years.
Then, on May 10, Tynes — a self-described “social media maven” — tweeted a photo of a black DC Metro employee eating on a train, calling her out for breaking the transit authority’s rules.
The tweet went viral, inviting fierce backlash from people accusing Tynes of being “anti-black,” “entitled,” and a “terrible person.”
The subsequent uproar over her tweet cost Tynes her original book deal and pushed her to the “brink of suicide,” according to a new lawsuit Tynes filed against Rare Bird Books, the publisher for her book about the murder of a Jordanian student in Maryland.

The world has truely gone mad. How on earth was what she said, anti-black??????

Silly self-entitled cow probably won't get anywhere with her lawsuit, (as what she largely appears to be doing, is blaming the innocent publisher for the consequences of her own big mouth and arrogant and self-righteous attitudes..).
She has got her name known and recognisable now, though..
What's the bet she will now have a new publisher within a few weeks -- no matter how crap a read her book turns out to be in reality ?

She clearly wasn't being racist, but I don't approve of people taking photos of people and posting them on social media in a negative way to shame them. The poor employee was just eating something. As it happens, her bosses backed her, but what if they hadn't? Nastashe Tynes didn't seem to think of the possibility of her being sacked or disciplined.

If I saw a transport employee eating on the job, I'd think "Eww daft cow, how unhygienic." I'd think she'd get a tummy bug. Their hands are constantly in contact with the hands of hundreds of commuters, ffs.
But I certainly would NOT take her photo without her permission and upload it on SM, also without her permission.
Besides, I certainly would not put her job (her livelihood!) at risk.
When will people learn that throwing someone on to the dole means that you convert their status from giver to taker.
(From tax contributor to benefit receiver)
And YOU, the complainant, will be the very one whose salary helps fund that ex worker's new life on the dole.
Duh, thicko !

Yo Wofie!
At the very least this author is guilty of being meddlingly spiteful.
And she also comes across as wanting her cake & eating it (not meant to be a pun).
As a Jordanian, she quickly learnt to fully embrace all the aspects of American society that are useful to her.
She knows how to sue for big bucks, US style, how to tap into the American dream, how to avail herself of all the sweet advantages of a modern society, etc etc.
Yet funnily enough, this smart intelligent author feigns total ignorance when it comes to racial sensitivities.
Claiming she has never once noticed that the US is a huge cauldron of racial conflict, in all her ten years living there?
Yup, that happens to be her one blind spot.
Pull the other one, hunni.

(Thanks for acknowledging that my points were valid tho.)
Didge, in an ideal world, colour would never enter the equation.
But it's far from an ideal world.
Some black people are very psychology damaged as a result of collective past experiences
hence their default setting in all their negative encounters ..... is to blame all decisions on race
So it's probably worth treading cautiously sometimes, especially in minor matters.
Don't get yourself embroiled in a full scale social media race row over trivial shite.

She should have taken the advice of the woman she was filming which was 'worry about yourself'.
If people filmed, made public and reported every little misdemeanour we saw on a daily basis, what a pathetically petty world this would be.

I am not defending anyone here or their actions in regards to the two women involved Jules. What conerns me is how often thinks get twisted to mean something completely different which was never the intent. It was not her making a view of anti-black but simple people online. Hence we continue to have this outrage culture that is sweeping online these days

Exactly, if she had perhaps seen the driver tucking into a three course meal while in transit fair enough but someone maybe grabbing a quick snack, mind your own business and mind the step.

Like I said, this author should worry about the big things in life. Ignore petty shite.
Maybe the employee felt a bit light headed & faint, and decided to have a quick bite of a protein bar or a chocolate.
What of it? No harm done. The world still turns.

"Suicidal ideations"? It appears to be a run-of-the-mill breach of contract suit, that Tynes is trying to parlay into a tort action so she can get punitive damages.
Meh...

I wonder if I could claim from Didge claiming suicidal tendencies when he starts harassing me unbearably?

Perhaps a separate claim for damages associated with didge...call it digital injury. Every time you get digitized, you can claim digital damages, even punitive digital damages.

Maybe we could all make a class action suit for damages, for every time that 'smelly bandit' attacks our collective intelligences with any of his grossly offensive posts on here ?
