Former top terror officer brands Google 'a disgrace' as Anjem Choudary remains number one result for 'British Muslim spokesman' search

The UK's former top terror officer has branded Google “a disgrace” over its failure to act on algorithms that rank Anjem Choudary as the number one search result for "British Muslim spokesman".
Sir Mark Rowley said the hate preacher remained the first ranking six months after he first publicly raised the issue.
The former Metropolitan Police assistant commissioner also accused tech giants of profiting from algorithms that “are pushing readers to extremist material” and not doing enough to stem the spread of terrorist material.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Sir Mark said: “They (the tech companies) are using algorithms designed to push us towards contentious material because that feeds their bottom line in terms of revenue through advertising.
“The contentious is often the extremist and so they are pushing readers to extremist material.
