The old man is going go give it another shot.
SEN. BERNIE SANDERS, the Vermont Independent whose 2016 campaign for the presidency helped shift the Democratic party to the left on issues like “Medicare for All” and free college tuition, announced on Tuesday that he is running for president again. The self-described democratic socialist immediately set an ambitious target for his supporters, calling on them “to be part of an unprecedented grassroots campaign of one million active volunteers, in every state in our country.”

Going go be interesting now. What are we up to, about 20 Dems running now?
He's got a built in base that worships the ground he walks on. Not sure it will be enough people to get him the nomination, but it's going to be interesting.
Just waiting for Beto and Biden to announce and the circus can begin.

Discard the women--America will never elect a woman president, for reasons I have posted many times before. There are many qualified women, but America type-casts it's president. Male's only.
That leaves a motley crew of males. Beto is too inexperienced...particularly, in executive offices. Who else is there?
Biden and Saunders are older, but what do you have against old people, Redneck? Too experienced for ya?

Beto is about as experienced as Obama was.
I have nothing against old people. But he is 77, meaning he would be 79 when sworn in. That's pretty damn old for a high stress job.
And it's Sanders, not Saunders professor.

So Quill, you fancy yourself some sort of expert on these matters.
Who would you throw your money on, on the Dem side? Lets Assume Beto and Biden go for it too.

That's a tough question. Depends on what you mean with "throw your money on". As a voter, I see myself as a consumer; don't think anyone stands out quite yet. As a political scientist, whoever pays my rate.
If you called on me, I would recall Obama. He was the best president that the US has ever had. Since we are so free with the Constitution these days, I might ignore the Twenty-second Amendment (Amendment XXII) to the United States Constitution and recall the man for another couple of terms.

Who do you think will win the Dem nomination.
It's not really that difficult a question, and Obama isn't one of the choices.

God, if she comes out it will be a fucking circus.
I think she has made peace with the fact that she's never going to be POTUS, but she's driven like no one on this planet.
I wouldn't be completely surprised if she came out though.
As a candidate, not as gay.

From polling Trump would lose to Biden or Sanders.
Can I ask, assuming you've been watching and hearing Trump these last 3 years, do you honestly think he's a good choice for president?
Or do you just think 40ish% of Americans are morons?

The polling said he would lose to Clinton.
I think Biden would beat Trump. I think most of the Dems can beat Trump, but I think Sanders is one of the less likely to beat Trump.
And I know you didn't ask me this question.

But I appreciate the answer
Clinton was toxic, though in fairness she beat him in the popular vote, but I get America isn't a pure democracy.
I think Sanders, who polled higher than Clinton in head to heads with Trump in 2016, would look so much more appealing in debates with Trump.
He'd talk policy - Trump can't do that.
He wouldn't get riled - Trump can't do that.
He wouldn't get personal or nasty - Trump can't do that.
He'd sound like he knows what he's talking about - you get the picture...
Of course, the evangelicals who have no problem with a 3 times married, pussy grabbing blackmailer will always vote Trump; but Sander isn't toxic like Clinton was. He'd appeal to low income Americans who saw Trump as their messiah.

Yeah, but Sanders has some of kooky ideas in terms of socialism.
He's going to hit a wall of support at some point.
I don't dispute the personal description. He's a decent, honest, caring individual.
He just thought Venezuela had an ideal system too.
He reminds me of Jimmy Carter.

The comparisons to Venezuela are an attempt to deligitimize him. He isn't trying to make America Venezuela just because he calls himself a Democratic Socialist.

"These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger. Who's the banana republic now?"

It's one mistake - even if a pretty awful one.
Sanders can throw it back with Trump's gushing over North Korea alone.

Sen. Bernie Sanders’ (I-Vt.) second bid for the White House is barely out the gate, but the lawmaker already has a formidable war chest after leveraging the support of small donors who propelled him to the top of the Democratic pack in 2016.
Sanders has raised more than $4 million from nearly 150,000 people in the 12 hours since he announced his run, campaign officials said Tuesday. The number far surpasses other prominent Democrats who have launched their own bids and is more than double the $1.5 million raised by Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) in her first 24 hours.

Well, he won't be lacking in cash, that's for sure.
