Britain remained the greatest magnet for EU migrants – even after other countries opened their doors to workers from Eastern Europe, according to latest official figures yesterday.

The UK continued to draw in more than any other country in 2011, when citizens of Poland and fellow eastern nations finally won the right to work in Germany and other wealthy EU nations.

The UK accepted 566,044 immigrants, compared to 489,422 who went to Germany, according to Eurostat.

The EU statistics arm added that the number coming to this country was twice that who went to France – estimated at just 267,400.

The fact that 90%+ settle in England must be very worrying for the English, and be a huge strain on their resources.

I've just checked, and the UK is less than half the size of France.

What is it that England has which everybody wants so desperately?

benefits obviously, i think france gives money up to six months, not sure under what conditions, here you can have a lifetime of benefits, rob, steal murder and never be thrown out.

that is very true but we seemingly cannot stop them you would have thought even by eu rules we could stop undesirables entering, as I have said before it shows we are not running our own country.

The figures are from Eurostat:

Eurostat is a Directorate-General of the European Commission located in Luxembourg. Its main responsibilities are to provide statistical information to the institutions of the European Union (EU) and to promote the harmonisation of statistical methods across its member states and candidates for accession as well as EFTA countries. The organisations in the different countries which actively cooperate with Eurostat are summarised under the concept of the European Statistical System.
