Pressure mounts for EU Failing President Tusk to apologise to Brexiteers after the Eurocrat said there was 'a special place in hell' for the British voters who wanted rid of him
EU chief Donald Tusk was under intense pressure to apologise last night after saying leading Eurosceptics deserve a ‘special place in Hell’.
The European Council president hurled a grenade into today’s talks with Theresa May, saying the EU was ‘not making any new offer’ to rescue her Brexit deal.
Mr Tusk, who has previously called for a second referendum, then attacked senior Brexiteers, saying: ‘I’ve been wondering what that special place in Hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit without even a sketch of a plan how to carry it out safely.’
Incredibly, he was then caught laughing on microphone after Irish premier Leo Varadkar whispered to him that the British would give him ‘terrible trouble’ over the jibe.

While not interested in defending Tusk, let's just be honest about WHO he was referring to.
It was not ordinary British voters, but the likes of Johnson and Gove, who promoted Brexit without actually having a clear and workable plan once their side won.
I think Tusk's comments are unhelpful and overly aggressive regardless, but I'd be disgusted if he'd used those words against British voters. But he didn't.

Very true.
It's worth remembering, though, that unlike his targets he himself did not have to face public election in order to achieve his extremely well-paid and immensely powerful status, nor does he have to demonstrate any sort of accountability for his words and deeds to the European people.

Barnier has nothing but contempt for the british people full stop.
The commission (bought and paid for by big business) has nothing but contempt for britain.
the intent vis immigration has ALWAYS been that britain will be Europe's "dumping ground" with the various EU nations allowing unrestricted influx from everywhere and anywhere, the participating nations taking their pick of the best and the rest being "allowed" to Get to britain, where we (tax payers) can be made to pay for the residuum.
Barnier does well to talk of a special place in hell, after all as the great Satan he would know.
We should offer to remain in a "reformed Europe" and the first reform should be the removal and disposal of the unelected , all too powerful and insidious "commission"

Moreover Tusk said what he meant and meant what he said, and all this is just "back peddling"
to cover his arse...
IF...he had JUST meant the politicians he would have said " a special place in hell for the politicians/leaders whatever " but he didnt, he said those who "promoted" brexit, which without doubt all those who voted for it did.
Not only that BUT, he forgets that us brits have a habit of getting behind those whom we vote for when they do as promised.....So Mr Tusk, from a brexiteer who may have started to doubt,
you can now f**k right off and stuff your dictatorship right up your arse you arrogant piece of european excrement
to cover his arse...

"Promoted Brexit without a plan."
It is pretty obvious that refers to political leaders - why would the average Brexiteer have a 'plan'?

I don't claim to like the man, not at all.
But casting him as attacking the British people is just more of the nonsensical hyperbole that led to Brexit in the first place.

brexit was more than anything the contempt of brussels and Tusk/ the "commission" had and clearly still has for britain and its people for years....Not to mention the commissions total contempt for and utter disregard for the pathetically castrated so called european parliament, which is nothing but a useless talking shop, either cowed or bribed into impotence by the commission and tusks little band of buddies.

T he EU has a strange idea about negotiation, the UK comes up with ideas, the UK compromises the EU just says non to everything.
As for Tusk, I just hope he isn't or has ever been a diplomat, he's really not helping things, as for the snigger with Varadkar, it shows just what these people are really like, spiteful little schoolboys, out of their depth.

quill....100 years ago there would have been some spine shown...because by now the british army would be stringing Tusk up by his ignorant scrawny neck. Now I'm not suggesting that such a thing is necessarily the way to go nowadays, but walking away from a pile of shit is not spineless at all.....
there is NO hope of "reforming Europe" since the elected mice are incapable (and unwilling) to upset what is for many of them a cushy number, and the unelected and unaccountable "commission" runs things with an iron hand......

That's why I don't like this coupling this sort of thing with nationalism.
In the past, Britain would have LED. The fight was inside of any organization, and Britain was out in front, designing the rules, appointing it's people to important posts, and generally running the show.
Now you appear to sit shivering in your hovel west of the continent, like Oliver, saying: Please sir, may I have s'more? Fook man, what if Argentina started rattlin' chains again?

Brexit is the result of the British people not wanting to be ruled by the EU... but for our democracy to be restored and our self determination and self governance!

well the brexiters seems to have descended to the divisive politics of Us and them (lets face it their original policies always had an element of this)
I doubt you'll have much luck convincing them out of this self destructive narrative they have created for themselves

that's because of disparities in bargaining power
Welcome to the world of being a 2nd rate power (like Australia)
Powerful enough for a seat at the table, but needing to do all the leg work and compromising if we want to get anything done.
I have no idea who Tusk or other individuals are, we don't get into that level of detail down here

I kid you not I've seen videos and memes and articles quite literally and sincerely comparing the EU to the Nazi Party (a united Europe seeking to dominate the UK). It is fucking stupid and would be funny if it wasn't actively leading to potential political and economic disaster.

Re: Pressure mounts for EU Failing President Tusk to apologise to Brexiteers after the Eurocrat said there was 'a special place in hell' for the British voters who wanted rid of him
The UK is not really a 2nd rate power at all!!!
Although the UK is certainly relegated to being a low rate power whilst we remain in the EU dictatorship!!!
But let's check back in to reality for a moment...
The UK is the 5th/6th largest economy in the world for starters...
And when you hear some people talk about the "eu 27"... just remember this...
The UK has the 3rd largest population of any EU country... and has a bigger population than the smallest 16 countries put together!!!
With 23 of the EU nations each having less than 20 million population... and 13 of these having between just over 5 million or less... with 5 of these countries having just over 5 million population in total between them!!!
Who are any of these countries to be trying to dictate anything to us...!?
And apart from the numbers... we've been doing most of these a favour and propping them up for years!!!
And you also need to remember that we pay much more into the EU than most of these countries put together!!!
Also... the UK has its own seat in the WTO... which we can retake as soon as we leave the EU... and that we don't currently take because we allow the EU to speak for us...
The UK has a long standing and wide ranging network of trading links with a multitude of nations around the world... especially the commonwealth nations... although while we remain in the EU, our ability to utilise these links in a beneficial way for both ourselves and the other nations is extremely hampered by the EU rules imposed on us that restrict this...
British standards on manufacturing and other goods and services were already recognised worldwide as being of the finest levels of standards and quality and guarantees... and still would be when we are outside the EU...!
I am more than happy to have friendly cooperative relations and trade with our European neighbours... but it is completely possible for us to do this, without having to be in the EU, and it is also possible for us to do a whole lot more around the world too once we are out of the EU...!!!

The USA and China are world powers. 1st rate.
I love my country, but do you really think the UK today is on the same level as those? You know what is? The EU.
It is completely pointless to compare the UK to 20 odd smaller nations within the EU when combined we are out sized. The Germany economy alone is greater than that of the UK, so let's be realistic. The EU is the largest single economic block in the world.
As for the UK economy, I'd wait to see the immediate effect of Brexit (which is predicted to take AT LEAST a short term hit by honest Brexiteers) before trumpeting its position as a top global economy.
I won't address the pipe dream of the Commonwealth picking up any shortfall in trade. As if Kenya and Nigeria or the faraway nations of New Zealand or Australia are going to coming sailing to our rescue with wonderful deals and fond memories of being colonial possessions of the British Empire

We have just signed a trading deal with Switzerland, think of all that Cheese and Cuckoo Clocks. Joking apart, Italy is also lining up a deal, as well as some Asian countries. When we are out, see how many others will want out as well . The EU is falling apart , can't you see it ?

Other countries are allowed to trade with the eu without being controlled by the EU...
We are offering to trade tariff free with the eu... or if they don't want to do that... then we just carry on trading on WTO rules...
And part of the WTO rules say that tariff free trade can continue for 2 years and even up to 10 years after we leave...
So I don't know what all the fuss is about really... it's quite simple... it's only the remainers who are over complicating things with their hysterical hyperbole... for example...
"Crashing out"
"Driving over the cliff edge"
"Shooting ourselves in the head with 'no deal' or shooting ourselves in the foot with ' Mays deal'"...
All hysterical nonsense...

Well veya... all that the british people have ever agreed to be a party to, is a simple trading arrangement...
Its what we have always been told that it is, at every point over the last 40 years...
And it was promised in 1975 during the referendum then, that a simple trading arrangement was all that it would ever be...!
If that were true... then we wouldn't have voted to leave...
But it isn't true... it's all been a big con!!!
