London's new 'ultra-low emission zone' that will force a million motorists to pay £12.50 a day or get off the road 'is expected to raise up to SIX times as much as the congestion charge'
First topic message reminder :
A new London pollution charge covering large swathes of London is expected to hit one million drivers and raise six times as much as the congestion charge.
Mayor Sadiq Khan confirmed that ULEZ - being introduced in Central London next year - will stretch to cover an area surrounded by the North and South Circular roads from October 2021.
The £12.50 per day fee means cash-strapped Transport for London will collect between £700 million and £1.5 billion every year- a significantly higher amount than the £230 million collected from the congestion charge.
Gareth Bacon, leader of the Conservative group on the London Assembly, told The Times: 'This could be Sadiq's poll tax.

The answer I expect will be of course not, followed by a mealy mouthed set of get out of jail free rationalisations which amount in reality to
The disabled dont deserve and should not expect hobbies or holidays, which has been the mantra from both left and right over here for years. Dressed up in various forms i ts true but non the less the "official" attitude......
This really drives home to me the reality that left or right they both piss in the same pot, Both should be dispensed with immediately anbd a new brand of politics should rise....
Bring on the "5th" position

As it is, that reeking hole that is sadly our capital city, has no attraction for me, nor come to that has ANY city....What is there in a city that I cant get (usually cheapier and easier)elsewhere?
And now these places that whilst no longer reeking of smoke etc DO instead reek of the effluent of fast food of all nations...YEUK.

AND that there will be available a vehicle to take me and the missus and 7 dogs and all the kit we take for a week at a time to our wood in wales. Stay available 24/7. And then bring us home.....at no extra cost to me?
Yep...all you've gotta do is make a reservation.

Meaning you can always rent a fookin' car if you want to go on a weekend trip. This whole thread is only about a fare for the inner-city. Pay the toll as a cost of a one-time trip. Or, pick up the car in Watford or somewhere south in Kent if you want to be a cheapskate.
Vic, you're acting like a damn baby...with your, what about this, and what about that? The toll becomes a burden only if it's a repeated or daily expense. Use the bus, train or taxi if you live in the city, and if you must have the vehicle, the toll is affordable as a one-time cost of doing business, going to grandma's or going wherever. Live with it.
