Are Engagement Rings Anti-Feminist? | Good Morning Britain
A new article argues that engagement rings are anti-feminist as it signifies that a woman belongs to someone. Harriet Minter and Rae Duke debate whether or not engagement rings are damaging to women.

Sometimes, I simply hate feminists. I know that’s politically incorrect of me to say and unpopular and I’m “setting women back years” blah blah...but, sometimes they just chat absolute fucking shit.
Yeah, really.
Yeah, really.

In a way I suppose they are, they are a promise to go through with the marriage, when it was a try before you buy system and therefore an insurance if the man went back on his promise to marry the ring was never returned to the man.
Although men and women could receive betrothal rings usually in royal or noble marriages.
I think the Egyptians started it and they were pretty egalitarian.

I never wore a wedding ring. My father never wore a wedding ring.
But, for women, they are a token of how well she is marrying...a 2.5ct stone with a diamond halo is pretty impressive. For some, it's all too gauche and mercenary.

I guess then, that some people don’t marry for the right reasons either.
It’s not about money.

When I got edds her engagement ring, I just wanted it to mean a lot to her and me and to look nice. Lucky me, she thinks it's beautiful

You would be in the latter category, then.

God, some people must be so miserable in life. They find something sinister in everything. I'd feel sorry for them if they weren't such cunts
PS: was me putting an engagement ring on my husband also anti-feminist? Or did they forget gay couples? How homophobic of them

You know, straight people always seem to forget about gay couples. There's a promotion on this radio station I listen to that goes, "Warning! Listening to The Sound of Texas may make you more appealing to the opposite sex!"
And while I think that's funny, I have thought of calling them up and saying, "Okay, but what about gay people, they don't give a shit about that?"

Hahaha! Too true. Also true in the porn and magazine industries, which are endlessly attacked for how they objectify and sexualise women, while gay men endlessly objectify and sexualise men in their magazines and other forms of media. The extreme feminist SJWs, like many other fringes of special interest groups, often get so stuck in their own issue that they ignore or even disregard all others.

Yeah, but, we all only have so much time in the day, right? It's why I don't get upset with BLM for not addressing black on black violence, and why I don't condemn Darwin for not trying to discover the origin of our common ancestor, and why I hope not to be condemned for rarely exercising
Re: Are Engagement Rings Anti-Feminist? | Good Morning Britain
Why can't some people just accept that everyone defines the meaning of traditions for themselves?
So what if engagement rings once meant "Oh hey now, I own you." They don't now.
Most people just find them romantic.
I haven't tried to make myself believe in God in eight years, now. Still love Christmas. Because it means something to me that doesn't involve Jesus as a literal god on Earth.
Honestly, I still like Jesus quite a bit! Actually, I like him so much more ever since I stopped worrying if he was watching me, judging me, when I wank.
And I guess that's just me being "weird." But!
Every one of us knows we're "weird" and don't conform to a label or a box, and yet when we talk to each other, we seem to bow to some pressure to pretty things up or make them "normal" somehow. Make it conform to what we've been told is normal, make it jibe with this flawed idea we have that other people aren't like us in our differentness.
When you think about it, it makes no sense to try to conform to some narrative we've told ourselves about ourselves. The narrative should be about how we're all weird in our own (usually) interesting ways.
And you know what Judge Judy says: "If it doesn't make sense, it isn't true." In other words, all these things that don't make sense are based on deception.

Fully agree with all of this. Sometimes I think those fighting against things like in the OP must have just had a really bad experience and now can't stop spitting feathers

Yeah, I made a hard turn somewhere around the word 'But!' and even I can't follow my line of logic after that point. But it's all true!
Tequila, dude

Yes dude. You were drunk when we left off last night and then you definitely lost your insanity after your “But!”
Ah, Tequila baby.
