Battered wife?   Car accident?   No....

Fiona Simpson from Kingaroy, Queensland was in her car with her baby and grandmother, about 130 miles north-west of Brisbane when she drove into a storm.

The massive hailstones smashed through the car's windows. Fearing for her child's safety Ms Simpson put her body on the line.

Recovering in hospital later she posted photos on Facebook of her battered and bruised back and shoulders and described what happened.

"I've learnt my lesson today, never drive in a hail storm!" she wrote. "I covered my infant with my body to stop her from getting badly injured.

it sort of counts as a car accident, she was driving when the storm hit. Sky Abuse - Graphic Photo 2190311264
You'd have to be idiot to head out in a bad hail storm, at least she did manage to pull over safely.

I got hit in Oklahoma, but I was driving a rental truck. I was moving from New Jersey to Arizona, so I had no choice but to be there.

She doesn't really look that badly hurt. Lots of contusions and abrasions and a couple of slight cuts, but nothing to write home about,

Thank God we don't get bigguns like that here. They must have been the size of billiard balls to make that much of a mess of her back?

Smile

I'VE seen the results of storms like that in the past  --  back in 2002/'03, I was helping out as a volunteer with the State Emergency Services over here, after a couple of bad storms around Gosford on the Central Coast, and Muswellbrook in the Upper Humter...

In those two storms hailstones grew up to the size of cricket balls, some with a spiky appearance (the hailstones can bounce up and down inside of the stormclouds where they are forming, adding more ice with each rotation, until eventually falling.. )

A bit like these others :
