Most people can't get through a meal without checking their mobile phone, YouGov survey finds
Most people can’t make it through a meal without checking their mobile phones, new research from YouGov has found.
According to a survey of more than 2,000 people 55 per cent said they checked their phone during dinner, while 53 per cent said they look at their phone even when dining out with friends or family.
Such is our addiction to our mobile devices that more than half (54 per cent) said they could not go more than two days without their phone before it bothered them, and one in five said they couldn’t cope being without their phone for four hours.
In a bid to tackle the growing addiction to electronic devices a number of national campaigns, such as Scroll Free September, were launched to help users cut down on their mobile device use and raise awareness on the addictive nature of electronic devices.

How to control the masses, through addiction to their gadgets.
I stopped taking my mobile to work ages ago and never take it, when going out for the evening
I simple use it to call someone, or answer a call. People know, I dont do text, as would rather an email and can respond at my leasure. People need to look around and find there is plenty to do and not think they need to constantly spend time on their phones

I dont own a mobile phone, never had one and hopefully will never need one.
We have just one rule I stick to when eating in or out with son and grandkids....no phones at the table.
Obviously with other people I cant dictate what they do or dont do when sat at a table with me, but if they prefer to casually check their phones, text or speak to others via phone whilst out with me.....they dont get another chance.

My mobile phone stays turned off a lot more than it's turned on...
Its battery goes for two or three weeks between recharges..

Don't have to do that, dear boy. We'd all be like that parrot in the Monty Python sketch: Dead. Late. Departed. Deceased. Gone to meet our maker......

Fiddling with the phone is a good way of killing time & using up nervous energy.
There are better ways tho, imo . . . especially if you're in a high stress job like ambulance, fire brigade or army - take up a gentle physical hobby.
…………….. some jobs are so dangerous jobs, the staff expect to die at any time. This is probably how bomb disposal specialists pass time in between 'jobs' whilst waiting for call outs >

Is it killing time, or is the device controlling you in how to spend your time?
Hence then the device is distracting you and even worse the device makes life easier for the brain. Which is like placing a cast over your injured arm and then what happens?
Tha arm loses muscle mass and becomes weaker. The same applies to the brain, when we are not using this to do normal daily tasks. Its why people are so badly becoming reliant on gadgets to perform simple maths, which we should do ourselves. To keep the brain active.
So the view to kill time, should be spent rather with thinking, interaction to those around us, planning, organising, crosswords, math puzzels in the paper etc. As this keeps the brain healthly thinking and maintains our capabilities.
So if its used to pass time, then, that person is being controlled by the gadget and simple are a slave to that addiction
The very fact, people need to see and look at their phones every couple of seconds, is worringly. Creating a need in people and will simple end up making more people insecure. That they need constant attention. They will lose the abilities to interact with people and become more withdrawn within themselves and this is already happenning. People come depressed simple if they do not get reactions, text, facebook approvals etc. Where even worse these companies are engineering these addictions and creating more and more mental health issues, within individuals.
Its time, people took control over their own lives again and not be reliant or need gadgets for attention.

Yes. I don't mind if they just check their phone for a second, but I do mind if they sit there talking to someone or texting.
Happily, I'm not addicted to my mobile phone. I forget to look at it for ages sometimes.

I never check my phone whilst I’m eating with others. If I’m alone then sure, I might, but it’s not top of my list when I’m stuffing my big fat face.

Lol Nicko, you are worse than my OH...he puts about £10 on every 2 months, he cant text, he just uses it to make phone calls.
I have just bought him a new all singing dancing one for his birthday, he has needed help so far from 3 different people to get started on it.
