Obesity kills British boy, 13: 16st teen becomes UK’s youngest weight-crisis victim after dying from a blood clot ‘caused by his size’
A 13 year old boy, weighing 16 stone, has collapsed and died due to his 'severe' obesity.
The teenager is believed to be the youngest victim of the frightening rise in youngsters who are overweight.
Doctors said the boy died from a blood clot that had travelled from his leg to his lung.
Experts described the death as shocking and a sobering indication of the seriousness of the obesity epidemic affecting the nation's children. Around 58 per cent of women and 68 per cent of men in the UK are overweight or obese. Among children, more than one in five start school carrying a dangerous amount of weight, which rises to one in three by the time they turn 10.
Obesity is not considered a cause of death, however, previous research suggests one in seven fatalities could be prevented if a person was a healthy weight.
This is due to the condition raising a person's risk of heart disease, which is responsible for 315,000 deaths every year in the UK, making it the number one killer. Obesity can also cause type 2 diabetes - a key driver of heart disease.
In addition, obesity raises the risk of cancer, particularly bowel and breast, which kills around 11,400 and 160,000 people in the UK every year, respectively.
The NHS spends nearly five per cent of its yearly budget - around £6.1 billion - on obesity-related illness, with one in six hospital beds being occupied by someone with diabetes.

Then the NHS should invest in more stomach stapling for those already obese and willing to change, it costs about £11,000 an operation and after three days all sign of diabetes has gone, saving millions in treatment for life, hormones in the stomach get to 'normal' levels and at the same time educate the young not to get overweight though I don't think preaching will work and to get out and about and move.
The government needs to ban sugar and fat substitutes in fast foods and regulate natural fats and sugars in ready made foods. Make your own is best but not everyone has the time these days I suppose.

Some people think overfeeding children or pets is a sign of love. It isn’t.

Some people live off processed and sugary sweet rubbish. Add to that the lack of excercise and unhealthy lifestyles that so many young people adopt....sadly the results are an obese population.

Also, some people need educating about basic nutrition. They really have no idea.
Additionally some impoverished families eat mostly stodgy, greasy calorie-laden foods as those are the cheapest.
Nature's natural slimming foods (fruit & green veg) are very expensive in comparison. So there's a social issue too.
Bet his short life was quite miserable. A very tragic case.

If she was being touted as 'normal' how come out of the thousands of covers over the years Cosmopolitan have featured how many morbidly obese women?......answer would be just the one.
I dont think anyone looked at that woman and thought her weight was OK or normal....quite the opposite in fact, which is why she has been debated about on various forums.
