A scary but plausible scenario.
Labour get into power under Corbyn within 4 years. And move a Brexitted UK further to the political left.
At the same time the far right embed themselves as political leaders across mainland Europe, including France, Germany, Austria, Eastern European states, Italy,Spain, Scandanavia, and the Benelux counties
They decide to attempt to overthrow the democratically elected British government by sanctions and the threat of invasion.
The question is...
Whose side would YOU be on?

Why would that happen? Aren't we a poor insignificant little island with no industry or resources of our own and can't function without say the EU?

Re: A scary but plausible scenario.
I thought the present EU is trying to overthrow the present Hungarian leadership, democractially elected by the Hungarian people?
I certainly stand against the Policies and views of the elected Government of Hungary, but this shows the collective authoritarian nature of the EU. To then collectively punish a EU state, based on its principles?
So to answer your question, I would not be on either side.
As I disagree with such collective athoritarian punishment by the EU and neither would I support an antisemitic Marxist Labour Party in power
Hence why I would vote for a new centrist party in this country and if Labour gained power under Corbyn, I would seriously consider moving to Ireland.

Oil and gas. We have it in abundance.

Oil and Gas in abundance ? most of our gas comes from Russia, and the oil from the North Sea is running out. We'd be ok for gas if we started Fracking !

Which is precisely why the far right in Europe could make a land. grab.
Russia is aleady grabbing land to the west, which in turn will force central European countries to look further afield for oil and gas.

Re: A scary but plausible scenario.
Won't happen, Andy. This is 2018, not 1939. Too many variables. The EU member states are each democratic and even if they did elect far-right governments, not all would at the same time and they'd only have power a very short time. The EU would not benefit from trying to invade the UK, which remains a nuclear power and would remain a major trading partner under whatever circumstances.
As for comparisons with Russia, well, like it or not, Russia has precedent for land grabs in Eastern Europe, especially states they formally held as the USSR. There is no such precedent, at least for the last 200-300 years, of European nations trying the 'annex' the UK.
Over thought fantasy. We have plenty to worry about leaving the EU, but WW3 is not something we need to think about.

I agree it probably will not happen, Les, but it is a hypothetical scenario, to which I posed the question, which side would you take?
Didge has already declared he would become a migrant refugee to Eireland.
I wonder if Katie Hopkns would follow him?

Well i can easly apply for Irish citizenship, being as my mother is Irish
You said that many fought against the Far right in WW2, this is very correct
What you are unware of this that many also were aghast that we were allies with the Far left in WW2
Of course this led to the cold war and conflicts in the Far east
So if the Far right in Europe rise and the Far left rise in this country. The question to ask you, is why would you not stand also against the Far left?
EU authoritarianism has led to a swing to the right in the EU. If the EU had been more democratic and not had such a diastreous open door policy. Would the rise of the Far right be happenning again
Ther Far right is now second in Sweden, Austria, France, first in Italy, Hungary for example. You need to ask how and why this has happened and most of this has to do with the EU
I think its greatly concerning to see the rise of the Far right again, as I do with the rise of the Far left in this country. Except the rise in this country is being orchestrated by groups like Momentum, that have now gained control of labour, by mobilizing to ensure they maintain a majority as labour memebers. All rather sinister and truely concerning

I will add one thing.
The way Labour is attempting to have MP's deselected if they may disagree with the Labour leader. Is nothing short of a modern non-violent version of the "Night of the Long Knives" carried out by Hitler. To remove dissenting voices from the Nazi party. I mean if anyone cannot see the sinister way, this is being orchestrated, to basically only have yes people to Corbyn. Then they are clearly not being honest to themselves.

It gets worse Eddie
Allies of Jeremy Corbyn have been accused of “Bolshevism” after proposals were leaked revealing they are planning to diminish the authority of a caretaker leader in the event that he resigns.
Under a draft clause circulated to senior Labour figures, a temporary acting leader would be forced to direct all of their decisions to the party’s governing body for prior approval.
Moderates within the party fear this would seriously undermine the authority of Tom Watson, who would automatically become acting leader, and would make him subservient to the national executive committee.
All nine permanent members of the committee are staunch supporters of Mr Corbyn, and were recently elected on a Momentum-backed slate known as the “JC9”.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/09/18/labour-figures-set-plan-restrict-tom-watsons-power-jeremy-corbyn/
I think sooner or later people are going to wake up to the sinister way this party has been overtaken and now being ruled by an extreme fringe group of society. That certainly do not represent the vast majority of Labour supporters

This is nonsense...
The partys that you are calling 'far right', are just against the EU, and want to restore democratic control over their own countries and are against the mass immigration of illegal 3rd world immigrants that the EU is forcing onto them!!!
All very legitimate views to have!

It's is hypothetical, Tommy.
It's meant to test out your loyalty and patriotism to Britain.
Or do your chosen politics usurp your your loyalty to Britain?

Re: A scary but plausible scenario.
All I see these days here in UK is leftys trying to bring down the current UK govt, and obstruct the return of democracy here by hampering us leaving the EU... regardless of the damage they cause in their pursuit of this...!
And you have the cheek to question my 'loyalty and patriotism'...!!!???
Show me some examples of labour showing 'loyalty and patriotism' to the UK and the British people, in the last 20-30 years or so...??????

Re: A scary but plausible scenario.
As the thread is about a takeover of Europe and a takeover and invasionof the UK by the far right, your question is an irrelevant deflection.
I will answer it as a separate thread if you care to post it.
Otherwise stick to the topic and answer MY question, which I posed 1st..
Will you support a left wing Britain, or a far right takeover of Britain from outside?..
A binary choice.

Tommy has a point
You worry only if the EU becomes more Far right, with a view to punish the UK, under Corbyn
Have you contemplated if it comes more Far left?
The EU already looks to punish EU members
So what is the difference Andy?
Its all going down the very same avenue and paths that lead to conflict. When undemocratic systems, try to enfore their views on other nations.
That is not how you bring about changes. You cannot force ideas on people. You have to use reason

Now you are being childish and be very underhanded and pathetic
This all the left can do, try to deligitimize people
My points stand again
Care to answer them Andy?

Re: A scary but plausible scenario.
Whoever decided to try and take over Britain, I think all decent Brits would fight it. If its the extreme right or the extreme left, Brits on the whole are pretty central in their thinking, it looks like they are being lazy but once you convince them something is wrong - like slavery or the Nazi takeover they'll do their utmost to defeat it. The problem these days though so many don't feel that patriotism or sense of right, they've been brainwashed and are taught not to offend so many things, the spirit to do right by your country and country folk has all but gone, patriotism is a dirty word these days.
