Asylum seeker who raped 17-year-old student in a cemetery replies 'Yes, I did that. Why not?' as he is jailed for 16 years for attacking her and another woman five months apart
A Sudanese asylum seeker who raped a student and then tried to rape a mother in the same cemetery has been jailed for 16 years after admitting the crimes saying: 'Guilty. Yes - why not?'.
Sexual predator Ishaq Al-Noor, 21, who came to the UK as a refugee three years ago, carried out 'almost identical' attacks on the women in June and November last year.
Al-Noor lay in wait late at night for both victims to cross his path before dragging them into the same graveyard on Spring Bank in Hull, East Yorkshire.
When the rape charge was put to him, Al-Noor, through his interpreter, told Hull Crown Court: 'Guilty. Yes, I did that. Why not?'
He then replied 'Yes, guilty' to the attempted rape.
He will be deported after serving his jail term.
In their victim statements, read on their behalf by prosecutor John Thackray , the student, who was just 17 at the time, said: 'When he assaulted me he might as well have taken my future, my sense of self, my security, and stomped on it.
'It shattered my parents' perspective of their little girl, something no parent should have to go through.

Glad to see the scum will be deported after serving his sentence

"Yes, why not." A tacit admission that life in prison in England is better that a free life in Sudan.

"Why not" is a candid, meaningful reflection: why not a few years in a cushy, British spa-prison? His expression is more than a simple 'yes'. He's pointing out that British prisons are a better proposition than life in Sudan.

That is simple a hunch on your part and there is no way of knowing
What is evident is that he was asked whether he did rape and answer, "yes, why not"
Which lends more weight to the view he simple did not care he did rape, as if nothing was wrong doing so
So your assumptions have no evidence and to be honest zero bases.
You do not even know his background for a claim of asylum
Its not even just one attack but two and at no point did he hand himself in after the first attack did he?
That then would add weight to your claim

I think this shows Quills claims is spurious to say the least.....
A predatory rapist lay in wait for lone, vulnerable women and dragged two off the street to attack them in a cemetery. Ishaq Al-Noor raped one of his victims - a 17-year-old student - in a cemetery off Spring Bank West in June last year, and tried to rape a mother in her 20s six months later, in "almost identical" offences.
It was feared the Sudanese former asylum seeker, who was just 20 at the time, may have gone to rape again had his two victims not come forward. A judge at Hull Crown Court praised their courage while jailing Al-Noor for 16 years under the dangerous offender provisions, with an extended licence period of six years.
That was after prosecutor John Thackray read harrowing victim statements, in which the student described her life falling apart as a result of her ordeal, and the mother revealed she had tried to kill herself.
Al-Noor, 21, of Pendrill Street, west Hull, had initially denied the offences, but changed his pleas to guilty on the day of his trial when the first of his victims attended court to give evidence against him.
Mr Thackray said: "The prosecution's case is that this defendant on two separate occasions during 2017 targeted two females late at night, engaged them in conversation before dragging them off the pavement and into a cemetery, where he then raped one of them and tried to rape the other.
"The prosecution case is that in relation to both females, these were not chance encounters - the defendant was deliberately waiting for them, waiting in that area for vulnerable females late at night with the intention to attack them and rape them.
"Both were in the same location. As soon as he got the opportunity he dragged them into the cemetery so he could not be seen."
The teenager was attacked in the early hours of June 4 while walking home alone "in drink" along Spring Bank after a party. Al-Noor approached her and began talking as she walked on the pavement on the same side as the cemetery opposite Hymers Avenue.
He was "laughing and joking", Mr Thackray said, when "without any warning he grabbed her by the neck and pulled her backwards into the cemetery. She tried to hold onto the railings but without success. Despite her best efforts she was unable to hold on and he dragged her backwards into the cemetery".
They were initially face to face, and Al-Noor began kissing her before forcing her to the ground and raping her. He ignored her pleas to stop and her saying he was hurting her.
The second victim, who was also "in drink", was attacked in the early hours of November 16 - although this time Al-Noor dragged her across the road. After engaging her in conversation, telling her she was "beautiful", Al-Noor said "You're coming with me" then picked her up in a bear hug.
Mr Thackray said: "She was crying and shouting and he was covering her mouth as he dragged her into the same cemetery." Al-Noor "threw her to the floor" and tried to rape her as she struggled against him. "She was thinking of her children and shouting to him about her children," Mr Thackray said.
Al-Noor was linked to both victims by forensic evidence.
Claire Holmes, mitigating, said: "He thinks of himself as a peaceful man, a Muslim who prays and fasts and is not a bad person. But he accepts that because of his use of alcohol that he's acted in a contrary way. Intoxication is, of course, no excuse."
Judge Simon Jack said the offences "must have been appalling" for the victims. Regarding Al-Noor as dangerous, he told him: "I take the view that since you have committed two very serious offences, almost identical, separated by six months in time, there is indeed a high risk of serious harm to women from the commission of further serious offences by you."
Detective Chief Inspector Craig Nicholson said after the hearing: "Ishaq Al-Noor will now face 16 years in prison and no longer pose a risk to the public. We again commend the victims for their courage in coming forward and offer our assurance to anyone reporting a sexual offence that they will be treated with respect and empathy, and we will do everything in our powers to bring such abhorrent criminals to justice."

Irrelevant
As seen, if the view was to be placed in jail, why did he not hand himself in, after each attack and originally say he was not guilt?

After ADMITTING the crimes - meaning he had been ASKED if he did it - he replied “Guilty. Yes, why not?”
He wasn’t asked if he’d rather go to prison here or go back to Sudan.
Quill, you can’t seem to follow a simple subtext within a piece of writing.
How on earth can you be a lawyer when you don’t read the actual context of a piece of writing but invent your own context?
Words fail me.

I'm merely speaking my opinion on what I think was going on in his mind. His words indicate to me that he was calculating his future, regardless of what he was asked. His calculation was much broader than 'guilty' or 'not guilty'.
Last time I checked, this is a free site...and members are allowed their own opinion. Moreover, I'm not the least bit interested in your estimate of my lawyering. First, my personal opinion has nothing to do with lawyering. Second, that's a fraudulent argument, because you want to pull down a standard that you know doesn't exist.
