Student and aspiring police officer, 22, who lied she was groped by a father-of-five taxi driver after he refused to accept a kebab-soaked £10 note is jailed for 16 months

A criminology student, who lied she was groped by a taxi driver after he refused to accept a kebab-soaked £10, has been jailed for 16 months.
Sophie Pointon, 22, whose dream was to become a police officer, claimed she had been sexually assaulted in the back of the cab she had been picked up in after a night out in Leeds.
She rang 999 in the early hours of April 22 this year and continued the deception by signing a statement, giving an account of the attack.
Leeds Crown Court heard the driver, a father-of-five, was tracked down and kept in custody for six hours.
In a moving impact statement he described how the claims had left his life in tatters.
He was also unable to work for four weeks and was shunned by his Muslim community as a result of the claim.
But his case never went to court as a telephone recording of the incident, with his taxi firm, cleared him of any wrongdoing.
Pointon pleaded guilty to perverting justice and was handed a prison sentence yesterday.
Kate Bisset, prosecuting, said the driver was interviewed and said he could recall Pointon being 'extremely drunk' when she got into his car holding a kebab.
He said Pointon threw £10 note at him when they reached the Hyde Park area but he refused to accept it as it was covered in oil from the kebab.
The driver said Pointon, who graduated this summer with a BA Honours in criminology from Leeds Beckett University, then became abusive and ran around the car opening doors.
The prosecutor said: 'He did not think much of it at the time because such incident with people who are intoxicated are not unusual.'

Stupid cow.

Well she has ruined her chances of being a police officer and has a few months inside to realise what a horrible thing she did....maybe she will have learned a lesson.

She should've got the sentence the innocent man could've got if went further.

She wanted to join the police, should've thought of that before lying. Her future in ruins, but how easily she could've ruined the man's by crying rape.

It really angers me, there are girls, women, boys and men raped everyday. When someone liess about rapes, it makes it much harder for them to come forward in case they're not believed.

I'm not sure why he feels religiously sullied by a kebab? Most kebabs are made of either beef, lamb or chicken and are sold in predominantly Muslim take aways.

Maybe it was dirty, I don't know. That's not a reason to accuse him of molesting her though. Bet she wishes she never said that now, tough.

I don't blame him. Who the fuck wants a grease stained, or any kind of stained, note for payment. It's rude and uncouth. I just don't get why he's brought religion into it. Anyone, of any religion or belief, would have been disgusted with that.
