Russia Saves Babies World wide from Villianous USA's Corporate tyranny
A resolution to encourage breastfeeding was expected to be approved quickly and easily by the hundreds of government delegates who gathered this spring in Geneva for the United Nations-affiliated World Health Assembly.
Based on decades of research, the resolution says that mother's milk is healthiest for children and countries should strive to limit the inaccurate or misleading marketing of breast milk substitutes.
Then the US delegation, embracing the interests of infant formula manufacturers, upended the deliberations.
American officials sought to water down the resolution by removing language that called on governments to "protect, promote and support breastfeeding" and another passage that called on policymakers to restrict the promotion of food products that many experts say can have deleterious effects on young children.
When that failed, they turned to threats, according to diplomats and government officials who took part in the discussions. Ecuador, which had planned to introduce the measure, was the first to find itself in the cross hairs.
The Americans were blunt: If Ecuador refused to drop the resolution, Washington would unleash punishing trade measures and withdraw crucial military aid. The Ecuadorean government quickly acquiesced.
The showdown over the issue was recounted by more than a dozen participants from several countries, many of whom requested anonymity because they feared retaliation from the United States.
Health advocates scrambled to find another sponsor for the resolution, but at least a dozen countries, most of them poor nations in Africa and Latin America, backed off, citing fears of retaliation, according to officials from Uruguay, Mexico and the United States.
"We were astonished, appalled and also saddened," said Patti Rundall, policy director of the British advocacy group Baby Milk Action, who has attended meetings of the assembly, the decision-making body of the World Health Organisation, since the late 1980s.
"What happened was tantamount to blackmail, with the US holding the world hostage and trying to overturn nearly 40 years of consensus on best way to protect infant and young child health," she said.
In the end, the Americans' efforts were mostly unsuccessful. It was the Russians who ultimately stepped in to introduce the measure — and the Americans did not threaten them.

The Aymerikan dairy industry is obviously running scared, yet again...
Shouldn't surprise anyone, really, to see this kind of "tail wagging the dog" style of industry-influenced faux-health "policy" coming out of The Disunited States of Aymerika..
Back in the 1950s, the Aymerikan Dept. of Agriculture re-drew the food nutrition 'pyramid' to give equal weightings (!) to each of the meat (beef/lamb/poultry), grains, dairy, and fruit&vege's sectors (purely on the basis that they were the four major industry divisions within the dept's organisation !) -- thereby inflicting unhealthy and erroneous nutritional guidelines onto the Aymerikan public for more than two decades to folllow.
Obviously some things haven't changed in farm sector influences over Aymerikan government policy-making (farmers in countries like Australia, Argentina and the likes, can only dream of those long-ago halcyon days when they too saw similar levels of official/political recognition..).

Not sure I like the tone of this World Health Assembly. It seems its not only American dairy industry blackmailing and cajoling. Mothers should have the facts and be free to decide for themselves, there are many people in this world brought up on formula for one reason or another who have healthy and long lives, while breast feeding should be advocated and advised the alternative of formula should in no way be restricted, licence it and control the content and put an advisory label if you must. Mothers should be encouraged but not forced by any lack of alternatives or supplimental feeding or coerced by the health gestapo into this. Many women find it difficult and even impossible to breast feed, if you have health workers insisting you keep trying you end up with an exhausted uptight mother which only makes things worse and a hungry crying baby.
Natural is always best, when it works but speaking to some contempories about this and finding we were a mixture of formula fed and breast fed, no one seems to have had an advantage over the others for childhood illnesses, we all caught measles, chickenpox and rubella etc.

This appears to be a story about tactics, more than merit. Not that I don't support the position of Ecuador, but what makes this story appalling is the crass, inhumane way that it was done. It has the suspicious smell of Trump about it.
Trump runs a very small shop. It takes but a phone call for him to meddle in some esoteric point or matter he heard about on Pravda-Fox News.
And, not only is he perfectly willing to take a side, but he routinely articulates the stakes: ...and if they don't, tell 'em I'll crush their first born!!! (Keep in mind, Trump likes the fight and is bored by the details.) Just be thankful that the dispute isn't over prophylactic mastectomies.

https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/nestle-baby-milk-scandal-food-industry-standards
multinational milk companies like his were causing infant illness and death in poor communities by promoting bottle feeding and discouraging breast feeding.
Our Swiss associates were less subtle. They titled the report "Nestlé Toten Babies" (or Nestlé Kills Babies), which a Swiss court found was libelous. On the substance of the argument, however, the judge warned Nestlé that if the company did not want to face accusations of causing death and illness through sales practices such as using sales reps dressed in nurses' uniforms, they should change the way that they did business.
It not about well off white mothers so you don't have to worry
And All studies not funded by Formula companies that actually meet peer review standards are unanimous in breast milk being far better and formula being an 'if necessary' substitute.
