One of the most annoying things in the world is getting chewing gum stuck to your shoe – but what if your shoe was already made of chewing gum? Amsterdam-based clothing company Explicit Wear is helping to eliminate the second most common form of litter in the city by turning used chewing gum into shoe soles. Explicit Wear launched the “Gumshoe” by partnering with sustainability company Gumdrop and tourist organization IAmsterdam to break down the synthetic properties of gum and convert it into a whole new kind of rubber called Gum-tec.

It takes about 2.2 pounds of ABC gum for every four pairs of Gumshoes; and since there are roughly 3.3 million pounds of used gum on the streets of the Dutch city, the material is not hard to come by.

“With these shoes, we take a step closer towards gum-free streets and at the same time, create awareness among gum users without being preachy,” says Mustafa Tanriverdi from the Amsterdam marketing and investments department.

Gumshoes are currently available for pre-order and they will go on sale in June for $232 per pair.
