Eric Bristow dies

The crafty Cockney darts player of a few decades ago, died this evening of a heart attack. He was 60.

I bet The Power Phil Taylor will be sad, Eric was his mentor in the early days

He was a seriously heavy drinker and pretty overweight.

Heavy smoker too. Still, he lived the life he wanted.

I was no fan of his, but many liked him.

Smoking is an addiction. Drinking too, only less so. Is it the life he wanted?

Probably was at the time.
There is a story that someone walked in on Football player George Best when he was once in a hotel room with a beautiful blonde, sipping champagne, surrounded by all the expensive trappings he was famous for. He had managed to ruin his career, but was still living the hedonistic lifestyle.
The person asked George....'where did it all go wrong'? It was considered an amusing anecdote he himself used to tell people..

Not so amusing a few years later when he was a shell of a man thanks to his failed liver transplant and his inability to beat alcoholism.

He died aged 59 after suffering years of ill health.

Selfish man,had a Liver transplant and carried on boozing. Wasted a liver that could have saved the life of someone else !

Alcoholism and drug dependancy are very difficult to beat.
I've seen many families who have done everything in their power to help family members to beat this only to see their loved one end up in a coffin far too soon, so damn sad. It could be any of us, I enjoy a drink but have control of it, as for drugs I grew up in the 60/70's but had zero interest in drugs, luckily. I like to be in control I know when to stop with alcohol if you take drugs you don't really know how its going to affect you or for how long, each time, from what I've seen anyway. It does seem a waste transplanting livers to people in such circumstances, sad as it may be.

I agree and gave you a thanx. Someone else could've had that liver and been grateful and not boosted again. Or, maybe some poor sod who's liver is damaged. I was so angry that Best abused his new liver, that he shouldn't have got in the first place.
