"Darts legend Eric Bristow was slammed last night after appearing to mock victims of the football sex abuse scandal.
The five-time world champion, who also has an MBE, sparked outrage by saying if he was abused when he was young he would “have went back and sorted that p**f out.”
In a rant on his Twitter account, he said footballers aren’t “proper men” and branded them “wimps”, adding “bet the rugby boys are ok ha ha.”

He also says..."Dart players tough guys, footballers wimps".... What a booze ridden idiot this man is.

That is very sad. Child sex abuse is very serious and frighteningly common.

SOME FACTS (Source: NSPCC)

Over 47,000 sexual offences against children were recorded in the UK last year

90% of abusers are people the children know - mostly family and friends.

Up to 90% of abused children develop mental health problems before reaching adulthood.

You would hope by now people would be more enlightened.

Too little, too late. To suggest to any children who may have read or heard his comments that victims are wimps for not fighting back is irresponsible and disgusting in the extreme.

He is trying to backtrack, it's very obvious what he meant.

This fool knows nothing about how victims of child abuse feel. The footballers who have bravely spoken out about how they were abused as young children are more of a man than what he could ever be.

The BBC, the Pakistani gangs, religious groups, now football, possibly other sports and organisations are yet to be exposed.

The footballers, and other famous victims, speak for the untold millions - yes, cummitively it amounts to millions - in our country who have suffered abuse but who have no voice for fear or misplaced shame. The last thing they need is a halfwit like Bristow.

I suppose organisations, when they are eventually exposed, get more publicity because they have targeted lots of children.
I agree though that sexual abuse in the home is probably more widespread than anywhere else. Probably covered up more too.

I was listening to a BB2 phone in about this today Sassy. Though the majority of callers agreed he should be sacked, a couple of men thought he had a point.
I found that really distressing that even a small minority of people see victims of sexual abuse as weak...it makes no difference how old they are when they speak about it, and like you I'm so glad Bristow has been punished for his remarks.

If a man has so little understanding of how someone is affected for life by abuse they suffered as a child....I think you are dead right.

Having said that, I would also understand why a person who was sexually abused as a child takes the law into their own hands when they are adult.

It's statistically far more likely for kids to be abused by fathers than coaches - hmmm.

This is going to be massive.
Looks like more than 1 abuser, it will be a bigger story than Saville and there seems no quick fix.
