A Mac And Cheese Recipe From 1784
And now the song "Yankee Doodle" finally makes sense.
The song was originally sung by the British mocking the Americans but the Americans soldiers started singing it themselves. "Yankee Doodle" is really an insult to American soldiers and the line "he stuck a feather in his hat and called in macaroni" is meant to mock the lack of fashion and sophistication the British perceived about the Americans.
In this amazing video from Townsends, a channel dedicated to exploring the 18th Century lifestyle, you'll learn how to make a macaroni and cheese recipe from 1784, and also a little history about the dish.
