Bannon Booted from Breitbart

STEVE Bannon has stepped down as executive chairman of Breitbart News Network in the wake of furore over comments he made in the bombshell Donald Trump book.

The former White House chief strategist was reportedly forced out of his senior role following his quotes about the US President and the administration in Michael Wolff’s tell-all Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, according to the New York Times.

In the book, Mr Bannon questions the US president’s mental health and labelled a meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Kremlin linked lawyer as “treasonous.”

Mr Bannon, who left the White House in August, is also quoted in the book as saying that the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference in the 2016 US election — and possible collusion by the Trump campaign — will focus on money laundering.

This week he reneged on his controversial statements, saying he regretted making the remarks and that he respected the president and his eldest son.

The comments are understood to have angered many on the board of Breitbart, who are known as Trump supporters.

A statement from Larry Solov, the company’s chief executive, said Mr Bannon’s contributions to the organisation were valued.

“Steve is a valued part of our legacy, and we will always be grateful for his contributions, and what he has helped us to accomplish,” Mr Solov said.

Mr Bannon said in a statement: “I’m proud of what the Breitbart team has accomplished in so short a period of time in building out a world-class news platform.”

I think that will depend on how much further he upsets Ms Mercer

The great challenge for Mr Trump is keeping the Mercers on side, given that they still have major influence over Breitbart, where his strongest supporters get their news.

“Trump’s victory had, in some sense, handed the Mercers the tool with which to destroy him,” Wolff writes.

“As push came to shove and the mainstream media and swamp bureaucracy more and more militantly organised against him, Trump was certainly going to need the Mercer-backed alt-right standing up in his defence.

“What, after all, was he without them?”

Bannon was a political tool groomed and paid for by Ms Mercer.
and remember the Mercers are so mega wealthy they can buy the Trumps.
