Obama care???
Obamacare Premiums Rise To $40,000 Or More For Some Middle-Class Families
President Trump has been saying it for years now: Obamacare can't survive.
Dozens of "exchanges" set up to handle Obamacare subscribers have shut down, leaving some states with a single option for those in need of health insurance. Obamacare premiums across the country are skyrocketing, with some doubling or even tripling. And nobody thinks it's all going to magically get better.
How bad is it? Ask Heidi and Richard Reiter of Florida.
In 2017, they bought a plan off an exchange for $26,000 for family coverage, which includes their two sons, ages 21 and 17. To keep that same coverage in 2018, they'll have to pay $40,000 in premiums, a 54% increase, the Miami Herald reported.
That’s more than a lot of people’s mortgage payments,” Richard Reiter told the Herald. “For me, it’s a crisis situation.”
“People have every right to be angry,” said Sabrina Corlette, a researcher and professor at Georgetown University’s Health Policy Institute.
Corlette said that going into 2017, health insurers on the ACA exchange raised rates to account for rising healthcare costs from prescription drugs and consumers who used more healthcare than anticipated. Other factors, including the expiration of an ACA program designed to stabilize premiums and the departure of insurers from the exchange, also contributed to the increases.
But, Corlette said, “Things started to turn around for the carriers in 2016 and then improved a lot in 2017. So the question becomes, ‘If they did so well in 2017, then what’s driving the premium increases for 2018?’”
The average Floridan will see a 45% increase in their Obamacare premiums — but that means some will see a 9% hike, say, while others, an 81% jump. Those signing up for Obamacare have until December 15 to pick their plans.
Residents of Charlottesville, Virginia, home to Thomas Jefferson’s University of Virginia, who don't qualify for federal subsidies, will see their premiums go up anywhere from 195% to 247% next year, according to the city's hometown paper, The Daily Progress.
Obamacare is great for those near poverty (where Democrats prefer Americans to dwell), but terrible for anyone even close to middle class. Doug Gray, executive director of the Virginia Association of Health Plans, told the paper: "For the people without a subsidy, it’s ridiculous. It’s completely unaffordable. It works very well for people who are at 100 [percent] to 400 percent of the poverty line. It doesn’t work at all if you’re over that.”
The Wall Street Journal reported in August that major health insurers in some states are seeking increases as high as 30% or more for premiums on 2018 Affordable Care Act plans, according to new federal data that provide the broadest view so far of the turmoil across exchanges as companies try to anticipate Trump administration policies.
"Big insurers in Idaho, West Virginia, South Carolina, Iowa and Wyoming are seeking to raise premiums by averages close to 30% or more," according to preliminary rate requests published Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
But those are averages statewide — many small jurisdictions will see increase on par with Charlottesville.

Trump has not only been saying it, but he's sabotaging it to make sure it happens. Trump owns healthcare now--we call it Trumpcare--and his statements are merely self-fulling prophecies.

Gosh. I guess it’s nothing to do with insurance companies/big pharmaceuticals/medical equipment manufacturers making big multi-billion dollar profits and paying their CEOs multi-million dollar salaries.

That was bound to happen when you forced Americans to buy their products. That's why they were fans.

No they are paying big bucks to the lobbyists so they can run the show like they did before, the blood sucking leeches. But hey they are businesses so it’s not like nobody knew.
Single payer is the way ahead. I’m lucky in that I have a great medical plan with a copay of $25, $25 a paycheck premium deduction,$500 deductible and $3500 out of pocket max. But I would struggle on my salary alone to pay that.
People got very confused because they didn’t understand the principle behind the Affordable Care Act. It guaranteed people coverage and couldn’t be kicked off for pre-existing conditions and keeping your kids on till 26 but it didn’t stop insurance companies from price gouging.
Was it perfect? No. But it could have been improved upon, but Mitchy didn’t want to. For 9 fucking years they’ve had the opportunity to bring to the table something that would work, but they didn’t. They couldn’t organize a piss up in a brewery because they’re too busy trying to appease their many factions.

Re: Obama care???
The O/P story is bullshit, pure and simple...
Just look at the alt.right propaganda site that Smelly' sources his info' from..
Health funds in the USA are allowed to operate on a 50% profit margin -- courtesy of the "free market" conditions that US congress allows them to operate under..
And, over 90% of the hospitals in the US are owned and/or opertated by those same funds.
The USA has the most expensive healthcare system in the world, but they have never had the best healthcare systems -- the US free market approach has always seen to that..
Without the Obama administrations limited (by tne Repub' dominated congress..) 'Obamacare' additions, health insurance would have been that much more expensive again !
If Trump gets his way, another 30 million Americans will lose their already limited healthcover..
