LISTEN: Historic child abuse panel member: “I was silenced by Theresa May’s advisors to ensure she became PM”

In an extraordinary interview recorded yesterday, a child abuse survivor who served on the Government’s independent inquiry into historic child sexual abuse has claimed she was silenced by Theresa May’s advisors to ensure that Ms May became Prime Minister.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of Ms Evans’ startling claims about her time serving on the inquiry.

Speaking to talkRADIO, Sharon Evans, a former journalist and the founder of Dot Com Children’s Foundation, said that the panel were “promised the child abuse inquiry would be open”, but after a short while she saw that it was ‘so obvious that everything was about the control and suppression of information” and that the supposedly independent inquiry had absolutely “no independence’.

Ms Evans claimed that the contracts panel members were made to sign by the Home Office were used to stop them from speaking openly about “very serious allegations about very public figures” – allegations which she says were taken back to the inquiry leaders, but ‘nothing was being done about” them.

The former panel member, who quit after questioning the true ‘independence’ of the inquiry, told talkRADIO:



It became very clear to myself and Graham when we went round to listening meetings, and were being given very serious allegations about very public figures, which we took back to the inquiry and nothing was being done about. Months in, they couldn’t actually tell us how the information was going to be used.



I was chairing the panel on one day, and I suggested that we wrote to Theresa May, who was the Home Secretary, to express our concerns. At the end of the day I was taken to one side and it was made clear to me – this is what I was told – that Theresa May was going to be Prime Minister, that this inquiry was going to be part of this, and that if I didn’t toe the line and do as I was told, if I tried to get information out I would be discredited by her advisors.



Ms Evans also says that she was gagged by the Home Office during a Parliamentary Committee meeting, describing how she was given a 23 page document detailing exactly “what she may and may not say”.

Evans says that she believes it was the Home Office – then under the leadership of Theresa May – trying to suppress and control precisely what information was released to MPs during Committee meetings:

I have got a document, it’s 23 pages. When I appeared in front of the Home Affairs Select Committee – which should be where you openly and honestly answer the questions and challenges of MPs, and where it’s actually an offense not to tell the truth – they (the Home Office) provided me with a 23 page document telling me exactly what I may and may not say.

Ms Evans says that she was so alarmed by the nature of the Home Office gagging document that she went to the clerk of the Parliamentary Committee to tell him that she feared she may not be able to tell the truth because of it.

Sharon Evans also had an extremely depressing message for the victims of the Grenfell tragedy about what she has learned about Establishment collusion during supposedly ‘independent’ inquiries such as this:

When asked by interviewer John Nicholson about her advice to the Grenfell Inquiry panel members, Evans said:

I think from what I’ve been hearing that people are already being encouraged to come and give information informally – and this is where we started on the child abuse inquiry – but the thing is it seems like it’s exactly the same. I want to stop them going down the same road where their information is controlled and suppressed, because when there is an inquiry they can control information and decide what is released.

Remember all the statements about how the enquiry was going to be wide ranging and in depth? Ad has there been anything about it? Has it been interviewing those who say they were victims? What evidence has it taken after all these years. And of course it would be supressed when so many were in authority. The police have been lambasted for saying Heath would have been interviewed under caution, out came the establishment to rubbish it. I know some people who are fighting for it, but they are having real problems and being 'got at' at every stage.

You are kidding me. May has known about those allegations for years, Lisa Nandy repeated in the HOC that she has brought them to her attention over and over again. It was only because the Whips list got on the net that they had to do something. And the person who had all that knowledge for years and never did anything except use it against MPs to control them, is now Foreign Secretary, and even Conservative MPs are up in arms about that.

At least try reading the published home page content of Evolve...and then explain why among all the copious references to Tory wrongdoing, both established and alleged, there is not one single reference to similar allegations involving the Labour Party.

My initial contribution to this thread was a perfectly legitimate observation about the overt political bias, and therefore trustworthiness, of what publicly claims to be a "truly independent and free-thinking" source of news when it is clearly nothing of the sort.

Additionally, my post contained no mention of the poster whatsoever...until I attracted the predictable insult and weak attempt at sarcastic dismissal by someone who is not best known for any toleration of opposing views.

Apart from this particular thread, I have gone back over my posts as far as August and and can see absolutely nothing of this so-called and implied defence of the "Tory establishment" and "protection of sexual offenders or paedophiles in high places," or of children being stolen in WW2, whatever that may mean. In fact my contribution to any thread for some time now has been woefully limited.

So? Smith was a Labour politician for 14 years and was included in the 1966 Honours List (as MBE) during the Prime Ministership of Labour's Harold Wilson, followed by the award of a knighthood during the Thatcher administration of 1988.

However, neither award was within the gift of the Premier; it would almost inevitably have been on local recommendation for local services (in the case of his MBE) and on the recommendation of, or at least with the endorsdement of, his political party leader in the case of his knighthood. Additionally, honours in the UK are subject to the scrutiny and ultimate decision of an independent committee.

The only difference is that Conservative Home does not have the gall to present itself as being anything other than a Tory propaganda machine.

My post, which did not even mention Sassy, referred solely to the validity of her chosen source, given its complete lack of balance and objectivity, and asked why we should necessarily believe the contents - particularly since it is not the first time that we have been invited to accept Evolve Politics as an authoritative source of news.

Sassy does not like anyone questioning her opinions and her reaction was predictable - what she obviously intended to be a personal insult, albeit mild, but which on this occasion fell flat.

I have never considered myself to have a 6th sense or any sort of intuition but many years ago, when I saw Theresa May promising 'solemnly' to investigate parliamentary sex abuse and paedo crimes  I instinctively KNEW how utterly fake she was being. She sounded COMPLETELY unconvincing and her voice rang out with insincerity

This promise was made many years ago, while she was still home secretary. The full truth will never come out when so many top people have so much to lose.
