Red sun phenomenon 'caused by Hurricane Ophelia'
Wow. I don't know if you're all seeing this wherever you are in England, but the sun has turned a phenomenal colour today and the day has turned a deep golden yellow.
Apparently it's caused by the hurricane that's about to hit ireland.
I hope our Irish neighbour's stay safe.
An "unusual" reddish sky and red-looking sun have been reported across parts of England.
The phenomenon has been seen in the South West, the Midlands, North West and North East.
BBC weather presenter Simon King said it was due to the remnants of Hurricane Ophelia dragging in tropical air and dust from the Sahara.
He added that debris from forest fires in Portugal and Spain was also playing a part.
The dust has caused shorter wavelength blue light to be scattered, making it appear red.
He said: "Ophelia originated in the Azores where it was a hurricane and as it tracked its way northwards it dragged in tropical air from the Sahara."
This meant dust from the Sahara was brought with it, he said.
"The dust gets picked up into the air and goes high up into the atmosphere, and that dust has been dragged high up in the atmosphere above the UK," Mr King explained.
The particles in the air cause blue light to scatter, leaving longer-wavelength red light to shine through.
The Met Office said the "vast majority" of the dust was as a result of forest fires in Iberia, which have sent debris into the air and that has been dragged north by Ophelia.

It's weird weathe too! It's unseasonably about 73 here and the wind is strong but blowing warm air.
It's like looking out at an amazing sunset.
I'd take some photos but my phone is stupid.

Its a great thing to look at and what it shows is how we continually screw up our own weather
So the moon looks red and it is weird weather too, but soon to be normal weather.

Yeah the Sun was so red, never seen that before. Earlier it was so hot, now we've got a yellow dirty sky, like a bruise.

Dirty?
How can a bruise be classed as dirty?
Do you see how views are formed to denote how something looks?
So if a woman has a bruise, is she dirty?
I look forward to the day, humans are free minded.

Trouble is you make a debate out of innocent remarks and people get bored of you easily and they stop debating with you.

So you think my positive views, which you personally thanked me over makes people bugger off?
So why did you thank me personally?
Seems to me you are not taking on my points but being a spiteful, trying to deter people listening to me, based on how you think.
You also arrogantly think everyone should thinl like you
So should i have been wrong to praise you?

Look, griping someone out because you didn't agree with their innocuous use of a phrase isn't stimulating debate or helping anyone. It's being the conversational equivalent of sand in your crotch -- irritating and unwelcome.
It's actually pretty close to being the dreaded PC, if you think about it -- at least the part of it that irritates people. It basically looked like you were scouring the thread for something, anything, to take offense with.

Ah so this is based on a subjective view.
So if I back anti-abortionism, based on the group, I am thinking of them and not my own views.
Seriously, I really do not listen to idiots like you ben, when you come out with the most inane crap above
I mean are you seriously suggesting i watch my language in case i offend a Christian, after you actively offend them your self?
This is why you are a hypocrite and full of shit
So am i wrong?

Around mid day today the sky was the weirdest I have ever seen it in this country.
Very heavy, odd colour, then when the sun came out...wow, it looked similar to the sun before we have an eclipse...only redder...amazing.

Yes same here on North east coast - very warm 22C and now the wind is getting strong - I haven't seen a day like this ever - it was like you all describe a yellow day- the sun was orange .
I thought it was very strange - there was also a burning smell in the air -which they say was picked up from the forest fires in Portugal .

Well we were planning a walk along the sea front this evening -but won't be going now its too dangerous and the sand will be picked up by the wind .
We have a huge tree near our house keeping an eye on it - but it has never been affected by storms so far

I can't believe Didge made such an issue of this.
It was indeed very strange today. I didn't see the sun but I also noted the greeny-gold atmosphere. I rather liked it, although I was dreading a downpour.

As well as being dark this morning everything had a sort of stale mustard tinge including bits of the sky through the almost black clouds, only ever seen those colours once before - flying in the Bermuda Triangle, in what seemed to be a very small plane, even before the storm moved in. That day we were thrown all over the place up, down, sideways, the mustardy cloud seemed to envelope us, I was so glad when we flew out of it near the main island and was able to land. I'd just been reading a book about the Bermuda Triangle.

It was warm and we sat out in this little cobbled street to have a coffee ....the wind picked up suddenly....literally chairs were blowing over and sandwich board signs were blowing up the street.....it was almost scary, but brilliant at the same time.
The wind is awful in Ireland and Wales....stay safe everyone.
