‘Deeply Worrying’ Fears Around Muslims And Islam Revealed In Damning Report
Britons’ attitudes towards Muslims and Islam have “worsened” with more than half of all respondents to a new survey believing the religion “poses a threat” to the West. “The fear and hostility displayed towards Muslims is deeply worrying, despite most people claiming that they stand firm against extremists’ attempt to conflate their heinous actions with that of an entire religion,” Hope not Hate (HnH) chief executive Nick Lowles said of the finding’s of the charity’s Fear And Hope 2017 report which was released on Wednesday.
“Clearly there is a lot of work to be done here, both by those tackling hate crimes and misinformation, and potentially by Muslim communities themselves.”
The report, billed as “one of the most comprehensive studies of English attitudes towards contemporary issues”, found that despite views on immigration “softening”, attitudes towards Muslims and Islam have “simultaneously worsened among the more hostile sections of society”.
The report, based on a Populus survey of 4,000 people in “six identity tribes” across England, found that 52% of respondents believe Islam “poses a threat to the West”. As a result of recent terror attacks 42% of those surveyed were now “more suspicious” of Muslims and a quarter of Brits believe Islam is a “dangerous religion that incites violence”.

So much poorly reported here it fails to recognize that within Islam, there is certainly Islamic teachings like Wahhabism/Salafism which are Political Islam. An extreme ideology, that is inherently a threat to our secular liberal society. Of which Wahhabism and Salafism is certainly a form of Islam. Wahhabism is what ISIS, Al Qeada, Boko Haram ect all follow.
So clearly people have a right to be concerned and its not Islamophobic to think so. There is nothing wrong with rightly seeing how problematic a religion can be and to be critical. What is always wrong is prejudice/discrimination/hate against Muslims. Two completely separate things. Hence its wrong to be suspicious of Muslims, simple because they are Muslims. That part is correct to be concerned about, but you cannot whitewash the problematic hateful verses in the Quran/Hadiths. Which is certainly used by Muslims extremists to justify their hate and violence. What needs to happen is that Muslims in this country champion those progressive reformers like Maajid Nawaz. As Islam has to change from within.
